Randolph-Macon, Washington and Lee Join Hornets in South Region
SALEM, Va. --- The NCAA recently released its
Division III Regional Rankings, and Lynchburg College,
Randolph-Macon College and Washington and Lee University were among
the ODAC representatives from the South Region in volleyball.
The Hornets are ranked sixth, while the Yellow Jackets and the
Generals rounded out the top eight.
The NCAA ranks the top eight teams in each of the eight
regions. Emory College currently owns the top spot in the
South region, followed by Southwestern University (Texas), the
University of Texas-Dallas, Christopher Newport University and
Trinity University (Texas).
The ODAC is also well represented in the NCAA Division III national
statistics rankings. Lynchburg (16-7 overall, 7-2 ODAC) has
made its mark on both a team and an individual level. As a
squad, LC ranks 44th in the country in hitting
percentage (.229). Individually, first-year middle hitter
Becca Loftis is eighth in the nation with a .401 hitting
percentage.
Emory & Henry sophomore middle hitter Rachel Fertitta is tied
for fourth in blocks per set (1.29), 18th in kills per
set (4.13) and 22nd with a .370 hitting
percentage. Randolph-Macon (19-5, 7-1) also has a player
registering in the national statistics. First-year outside
hitter Mallory Carter is recording 0.69 aces per set to rank
46th.
Aside from the national spotlight, Washington and Lee (15-10, 6-2)
is currently on a 10-match winning streak. Emory & Henry
(16-4, 4-3) has won four straight.
