R-MC Knocks Off F&M in First Round

Jackets to Face Colorado College on Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team earned the program's first NCAA Division III Tournament victory with a thrilling 3-2 win over Franklin & Marshall Friday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets advance to the Regional Semifinals on Saturday where they will take on top-seed Colorado College at 4:00 p.m. at Christopher Newport University.

After dropping the first game 23-25, R-MC (26-7) rallied to win the next two 25-21 and 25-17. The Diplomats earned a 25-23 victory in game four, before the Jackets closed out the match with a 15-13 decision in the fifth and deciding game.

Jessica Sears paced the Jackets with 15 kills and 14 digs on the defensive end.Mallory Carter put away 12 kills on the afternoon and her nine serving aces proved to be key in the R-MC win. Courtney Anderson dished out 31 assists, while Sam Blockchipped in with 14 of her own.

Marli Dabareiner led four Jackets in double-digit digs with 18. Sears had 14, while Anderson and Block each had 10.

Mallory James came off the bench to provide a spark with six block assists, while Raena Winton had four block assists to go with her 11 kills on the offensive side of the net.
