Katie Long, Bridgewater, Jr., Outside Hitter

Long, a junior from Floyd, Va., led the Eagles to a 4-0 week at the Goucher Invitational where she earned Co-Most Valuable Player honors (with Steveson's Jessica Geiselman).  Long racked up 48 kills during the tournament with a trio of double-digit efforts. Included in that total is a 19-kill effort in which she hit .474 in a 3-0 win against Frostburg State.  She followed that with 13 kills in a 3-0 victory over McDaniel to give her 32 winners on Sunday.  She hit .407 in the latter match.  On Saturday, she smacked 11 kills against host Goucher.  For the tournament, Long hit .339 and average just short of 4.0 kills per game.  She's currently fifth in the ODAC with 209 total kills.

Volleyball Honor Roll

Jamie Cockerham, Emory & Henry - (Sr, OH - Galax. Va / Galax HS, 9)
Though Emory & Henry had only one match this week, Cockerham made the most of her opportunity. The senior from Galax, Va. unleashed for a school-record 28 kills and a .490 hitting percentage (28-4-49) as the Wasps picked up a 3-1 victory over the Quakers. Coming into this week, 28 kills ties for the conference lead in kills in a match (most in a four-set match) and no player has averaged 7.0 kills per set for any match. Cockerham also was perfect in 25 serve receive opportunities.

Taylor Whitley, Guilford -
(Jr, S - China Grove, N.C., 1)
Whitley tallied 40 or more assists in matches against Emory & Henry and Meredith, and 153 overall for the week. Whitley's eight aces in Guilford's win over Allen University on Saturday are the second-highest single-match total in school history. Whitley helped the team to 19 service aces, which rank eighth all-time in school history. Additionally, Guilford averaged 6.3 aces per game, which is the team's third-best figure.

Brittany Crawford, Lynchburg -
(So, DS - Afton, VA, 11)
Crawford set a career-high in digs with 12 against Randolph before passing it with 16 against Frostburg State. Crawford's consistent play in the four matches at the Goucher Invitational saw her named to the All-Tournament Team, where LC went 3-1 as a team.  Crawford had 11 kills at the beginning of the week in a 3-0 conference win over Randolph.

Celine Rhodes, Randolph -
(Fr, S - Barhamsville, VA, 5)
Rhodes led Randolph to a 3-2 week, including a 3-1 record at the Maroon Classic this weekend.  She chalked up two double-doubles, a triple double and one contest where she posted at least five in five different categories. Friday against Ferrum, Rhodes had 12 kills, 20 assists, 11 digs, seven blocks and five aces. She followed that up with 17 kills and 24 assists against UVA-Wise. She averaged three kills per set and hit at a .292 percentage on the week. She also accumulated 50 assists, 27 digs, 13 total blocks and 14 aces.

Tori Puryear, Randolph-Macon -
(Jr, MH - Madison, VA , 7)
Puryear helped R-MC to a 2-1 week. She registered nine kills in a win over DII Virginia State on Tuesday and followed that up with a nine kill performance against ODAC foe Shenandoah. In a loss to No. 5 Christopher Newport, she had 13 kills, four digs and two block assists. She also had four aces in the win over VSU.

Shannon Stone, Roanoke -
(Sr, S - Williamsburg, VA, 6)
Stone tallied 105 assists in the Maroons 3-2 week. She had 25 helpers in a 3-1 win over Ferrum, and then posted 34 assists in a 3-1 conference win over Randolph.  She added 14 kills, 50 digs and nine total blocks on the week.
