ODAC Players of the Week - Week 26

FOREST, Va. --- Winter sports' regular seasons are officially in the books with spring sports taking center stage despite poor weather last week throughout ODAC country. Those earning weekly honors include (pictured, top-to-bottom left-to-right): Tristan Baker from Shenandoah baseball, Sarah Aukamp and Katie McNeil from Guilford softball, Ty Walser from GC baseball, Harry Shepherd and Georgia Wright from Washington and Lee tennis, Jake O'Brien from Hampden-Sydney men's lacrosse, and Haley Tucker from W&L women's lacrosse.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ty Walser | Guilford | Jr. | Starting Pitcher
Walser, a junior from Rural Hall, N.C., picked up his first win of the young season as the Quakers defeated Elmira (N.Y.), 8-1, in a single-game outing on Tuesday. Walser started and worked the first 7.0 frames. He gave up one run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The run he allowed came on a two-out infield single in the fifth inning. Walser is now 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched covering three appearances.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tristan Baker | Shenandoah | Sr. | Second Base
Baker, a senior from Williamsport, Md., slashed .500/.600/1.375 in a two-game sweep of Neumann as all four of his hits went for extra bases. Baker opened with a RBI triple and two walks to go with a run scored in a 13-6 victory in game one. The Hornets second baseman went 3-for-4 in game two with two doubles, four RBI, and his first career homerun.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake O'Brien | Hampden-Sydney | So. | Attack
O'Brien, a sophomore from Scituate, Mass., picks up his second weekly award after helping Hampden-Sydney to a 1-1 week. O'Brien opened with two goals and assist to go with four ground balls and a caused turnover in a 9-8 overtime win at Catholic. It was his tally off a feed from Jared Medwar with 1:47 on the overtime clock that sealed the win for H-SC. O'Brien was back at it on the weekend as he scored a team-best three goals to go with three ground balls in a 12-9 setback to nationally 16th-ranked Christopher Newport. For the season, O'Brien leads the ODAC with 12 goals scored and is tied for second with 14 points.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Harry Shepherd | Washington and Lee | Jr.
Shepherd, a junior from New York, N.Y., helped Washington and Lee to a 2-1 week with a 4-2 overall record including 3-0 in singles play. Shepherd earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at #1 singles over Darian and joined John Rudden for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles in a 7-0 team victory over Shenandoah. Shepherd was again victorious at #1 singles against Franklin & Marshall's Isaac Sales, 6-2, 6-2, but he and Rudden fell 8-4 at #1 doubles. The General won that match, 5-4. In the final contest of the week against nationally 19th-ranked Swarthmore, Shepherd won 6-2, 6-2, at #1 singles over Jiung Jung. He and Rudden lost, 8-5, at #1 doubles in a 6-3 team setback to the Garnet.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie McNeil | Guilford | So. | Pitcher
McNeil, a sophomore from Winston-Salem, N.C., opened the season with a stellar outing in the circle to lead the Quakers to 9-0 five-inning shortened win over Mary Baldwin. McNeil worked all five frames and surrendered just one hit with two walks and 11 strikeouts. She fanned at least two batters in each inning and whiffed the side in the fourth frame.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Aukamp | Guilford | So. | Shortstop
Aukamp, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., went a perfect 5-for-5 as the Quakers earned a season-opening sweep at Mary Baldwin. Aukamp slashed 1.000/1.000/2.400 with three extra-base hits and four RBI. She opened with a 3-for-3 showing with a double, two homers, two RBI, and three runs scored in a 9-0 victory. She was 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a runs scored in a 10-0 triumph in game two.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Haley Tucker | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Midfielder
Tucker, a senior from Manakin-Sabot, Va., helped catapult Washington and Lee from 13th to eighth in the latest IWLCA coaches with two non-conference wins over strong competition. Tucker scored three times and dished out two assists in the Generals 19-6 road victory at Christopher Newport. She collected seven draw controls to go with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Tucker scored three more times including Washington and Lee's final two tallies to provide the difference in a 10-9 upset win over then nationally seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall College. She added one assist in addition to six draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Tucker is now nine draw controls short of tying the W&L all-time career record. Tucker is currently second in the ODAC in goals scored (8) and third in points (11) and assists (3).

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Georgia Wright | Washington and Lee | Fy.
Wright, a first-year from Austin, Texas, helped lead the Generals to the first ODAC and overall team victory of the spring season with a 9-0 triumph over Randolph College. Wright, competing out of the top ladder position for the first time this season, earned a 6-4, 6-4 singles victory over Keyu Jin. She then joined Anna Kreynin for an 8-2 triumph at #2 doubles. Wright is now 5-3 in all singles competitions this year, including a 3-0 mark in dual matches.
