FOREST, Va. --- The first week of swimming is in the books, joining ODAC fall sports in this week's reports. Most sports are a few games into their league slates by now as the calendar turns to October. Those earning weekly honors in field hockey, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, and women's volleyball include (headshots; from top and left-right) Jackie Lerro from Lynchburg field hockey, Linsey Bailey from Roanoke women's volleyball, Kyle Gallagher from Lynchburg men's soccer, Sara Bane from Randolph women's soccer, and Alyssa Reed and Kevin Bennett from Lynchburg swimming.

Remaining awards this week will be announced on Tuesday (m/w cross country) and Wednesday (m/w golf).

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK Jackie Lerro | Lynchburg | Jr. | Forward Lerro, a junior from Royersford, Va., was explosive in the Hornets 2-1 week that included a 4-3 victory over nationally second-ranked Rowan University. Lerro, who registered 16 total points in Lynchburg's 2-1 week, opened with four goals and three assists in a 6-1 triumph at Stevenson. She tallied Lynchburg's first, third, fifth, and six goals of the game while assisting Emily Dudley on the Hornets' second goal. Following a 1-0 loss to York (Pa.) on Saturday, Lerro helped Lynchburg more than make up for the setback by playing a part in all four goals against Rowan. She scored the first two goals of the game and tallied again at the outset of the second half. She capped her day by assisting Dudley on the Hornets' final goal, securing the win to snap a 12-game winless streak against the Profs. MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kyle Gallagher | Lynchburg | Jr. | Goalkeeper Gallagher, a junior from Haymarket, Va., was a veritable brick wall thru 220 minutes of play on the way to a pair of shutouts against two of the conference's best programs. Gallagher, who made 17 saves on the week, came up with 11 stops to preserve a 0-0 draw and shutout thru 110 minutes against nationally fourth-ranked Washington and Lee. Three of his saves came in the second overtime period. Gallagher again was at his best with six saves in a 0-0 draw with regionally-ranked Roanoke. He combined for five of his saves between the second half and first overtime period in highlight a second 110-minute showing. For the season, Gallagher is second in the ODAC with 39 saves and a .830 save percentage. He has had six or more saves in 4-of-9 games played this season. MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Kevin Bennett | Lynchburg | Fy. Bennett, a first-year from Fredericksburg, Va., helped the Hornets win their first meet as a varsity program in a 104-85 decision at Randolph College. Bennett won a pair of events, placing first in the 100-yard backstroke in 0:57.16 and stopping the watches first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.67. Both times would have ranked inside the ODAC's top-25 on the top-times list last season. WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Alyssa Reed | Lynchburg | Gr. Reed, a grad student from Forest, Va., helped Lynchburg open its first season as a varsity program with a resounding 129-30 victory at Randolph College over the weekend. Reed won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.25, and also stopped the watches first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.16. Her 100-fly time would have been inside the ODAC's top-15 a season ago, while her 200-IM mark is inside last year's top-25. WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sara Bane | Randolph | Jr. | Forward Bane, a junior from Blue Ridge, Va., put together a record-setting week as she helped the WildCats to a 1-1 week with six combined goals over two games. Bane scored Randolph's goal in a 4-1 setback to Shenandoah over the weekend. It was her first game, however, that required new entries in the Randolph record book. Bane found the back of the net five times in a 7-3 triumph over Averett, resetting the WildCats single-game goals scored record. She scored the game's first three goals to help Randolph to a 4-1 halftime advantage, and then tallied two more in the second half to put the game away. VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK Linsey Bailey | Roanoke | So. | Outside Bailey, a sophomore from Fincastle, Va., was explosive on offense and sound on defense in the Maroons 2-1 week against ODAC competition. Bailey hammered 61 kills at a 6.10 per-set clip, adding in 45 digs at 4.50 per set. She collected 64.5 total points and 6.5 per set. She opened her week with 18 kills to go with eight digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry. Bailey turned up her production with 26 kills and 20 digs in a 3-1 loss to Lynchburg. The 26 kills mark the most in a match of any length in the ODAC this season. It is her third 20-plus kill match of the year and her first 20/20 outing thru 16 matches. Bailey capped her week with 17 kills, 17 digs, and two aces in a 3-0 triumph over Eastern Mennonite. For the season, Bailey now leads the ODAC in kills per set (4.27), points (289.0), and points per set (4.8). She is second in total kills (256).
