ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- Several spring sports enjoyed spring break trips over the past week with a plethora of contests associated with them. ODAC student-athletes continue to show their quality with excellent performances. Those earning weekly honors include (heads, top-bottom, left-right): Carson Kulina from Shenandoah baseball, Hanna Hull from Virginia Wesleyan softball, Frankie Ritter from SU baseball, Katrina Martin from Bridgewater softball, Jack Hodgson and Caitlin Anderson from Washington and Lee men's and women's lacrosse, Keyu Jin from Randolph women's tennis, and Canon Secord from BC men's tennis.

Below are entries for all eight winners from today's multi-sport release. Click on the associated links to see that sport's weekly honor roll.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Carson Kulina | Shenandoah | So. | Pitcher
Kulina, a sophomore from Hummelstown, Pa., completely shutdown Emory & Henry as he tossed 6.0 shutout frames on the way to a 15-0 victory in game one of a sweep of the Wasps. Kulina allowed just three baserunners as he surrendered two hits and one batter reached via an error. He did not walk a batter and fanned six including the side in the fourth inning and the final two batters he faced. He finished his time on the hill having retired 10 straight batters. For the season, Kulina is 1-0 in four starts covering 16.2 innings of work. He owns a 2.70 ERA with 16 strikeouts and a .127 batting average against having allowed just seven hits.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Frankie Ritter | Shenandoah | So. | Shortstop
Ritter, a sophomore from Stephens City, Va., slashed at .667/.688/1.167 as Shenandoah rattled off three more victories to improve to 10-1 on the season. Ritter reached base in 11-of-15 plate appearances as he went 8-of-12 with three walks, three triples, two RBI, and five runs scored in three multi-hit efforts. He opened by going 3-for-4 with a walk, two triples, and two runs scored in a 15-0 win over Emory & Henry. Ritter followed that by going 3-for-5 in game two with a RBI and a run scored in a 7-2 victory. The next day, he went 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple, RBI, and two runs score as the Hornets posted a 19-4 triumph over Mt. Aloysius. For the season, Ritter is hitting .366 (15-of-41) with an ODAC-best four triples. He has scored 11 runs and driven in five, and is seventh in the ODAC with a .585 slugging percentage.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jack Hodgson | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Face-Off Specialist
Hodgson, a senior from Richmond, Va., was dominant on face-offs in two wins for Washington and Lee and continued his climb towards cracking the Division III top-10 list for all-time face-off wins. Hodgson won 13-of-19 matchups with a trio of ground balls as the Generals posted a 17-6 win at Mary Washington. Then in Washington and Lee's ODAC opener against Guilford, Hodgson went unblemished as he won all 14 face-offs in which we squared off, picking up six ground balls on the way to a 20-5 win over the Quakers. For the season, Hodgson has won 81-of-116 (.698) face-offs with 37 ground balls. He has now won 852-of-1260 (.676) career face-offs with the wins ranking 11th all-time in Division III.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Canon Secord | Bridgewater | So.
Secord, a sophomore from Harrisonburg, Va., is making good on last season's ODAC Player of the Year campaign as he went a combined 6-0 in top-flight singles and doubles play to help Bridgewater to a 2-1 team showing. In a 5-4 loss to Drew University, Secord posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over John Dickey at #1 singles and joined Matthew Gordon for an 8-1 triumph at #1 double. He swept both sets in posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles against Dustin McCullough from St. John Fisher. He and Gordon won 8-0 at #1 doubles to help BC post a 9-0 team win. Secord again grabbed two points towards a 6-3 win over Albion with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at #1 singles and an 8-1 win with Gordon at #1 doubles.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Hanna Hull | Virginia Wesleyan | Sr. | Pitcher
Hull, a senior from Chesterfield, picks up her third straight weekly honor after not allowing a run and fanning 32 batters over 21.0 innings in the circle on the way to three victories and a save. Hull opened the week with complete game shutout over N.C. Wesleyan in game one of a doubleheader sweep. She surrendered two hits and walked a pair with 12 strikeouts over the course of 7.0 frames for a 4-0 victory. She came on for the final three innings of game two, picking up a save in giving up one hit and walking one with five more punchouts towards a 6-4 win. Hull started and worked 2.0 innings towards a no-decision in an 8-0 win over Bethany (W.Va.). She walked one and fanned a pair in that outing. She then came on in relief and picked up a win with 2.0 innings in a 16-5 triumph over Allegheny. She gave up a hit and struck out three. Hull capped her week with a complete game shutout of Greensboro, 4-0. She surrendered three hits and walked one with 10 strikeouts in 7.0 full frames. For the season, Hull is 8-0 with a save in 11 appearances that includes seven starts and five complete games with four shutouts. In 47.1 innings in the circle, she has given up just one run and 20 hits with 13 walks and 66 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .132 off her. She owns a 0.15 ERA.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katrina Martin | Bridgewater | Jr. | 1st Base
Martin, a junior from Bridgewater, Va., put together a strong week as she hit safely in all eight games Bridgewater played last week in Florida, helping the Eagles to a 7-1 showing. BC went 8-2 overall on the trip with two games played the previous Sunday. Martin rattled off 10 hits in 23 at bats with eight walks towards a .594 on-base percentage. She collected a pair of triples and a homer while driving in seven runs and scoring 10 times. She opened with two RBI in a 6-5 win over Adrian and scored twice with in a second 1-for-3 outing with two walks in a 10-5 win over Ohio Northern later that day. On day two, Martin went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in a 6-2 win over Bluffton and followed up with a two-run homer and a run scored in an 8-1 win over New England College. Martin went 2-for-4 in the Eagles lone loss, a 4-3 decision to John Carroll, but rebounded with a 4-0 victory over Alvernia in which Martin drove in two runs and scored once. On the final day, Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple, walk, RBI and two runs scored in an 8-4 victory over Mount Union, and then capped the week by going 1-for-2 with a triple, walk, and two runs scored in a 4-2 win over Illinois College. For the season, Martin is top-10 in the ODAC in slugging (2nd - .923), OBP (4th - .574) and batting average (6th - .462). She leads the ODAC with 12 walks, tied for first with three triples, is second in RBI (19) and total bases (36), and ranks fourth in runs (16), hits (18), and homeruns (3).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Caitlin Anderson | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Defender
Anderson, a senior from Manhasset, N.Y., helped lead the now nationally fourth-ranked Generals to a pair of high profile victories with a stellar defensive effort. The 2019 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year opened with seven draw controls, six caused turnovers, and three ground balls in a 16-5 victory over Christopher Newport. She followed that with six ground balls, three draw controls, and three more caused turnovers in a 12-9 triumph over then nationally third-ranked Gettysburg. The Generals' defense held the Bullets seven goals below their season average of 16 tallies per game. For the season, Anderson leads the ODAC in caused turnovers (18) and ground balls (24) and is second in draw controls (48).

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Keyu Jin | Randolph | Sr.
Jin, a senior from Kunming, China, put together a 6-2 week combined at #1 singles and #1 doubles, the latter all with partner Ashley Schmitz. Randolph went 3-1 in team results. Jin opened the week with her toughest outing as she dropped a singles match with W&L's Taylor Garcia, the 44th-ranked player in the country, via a 6-3, 6-3 line. She and Schmitz fell 8-4 in doubles action as the Generals claimed the match, 7-2. Jin recovered to go 6-0 over a three-day stretch beginning with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win and 8-1 doubles triumph in an 8-1 team victory over Johnson (Tenn.). She then won 6-2, 6-1 in singles and 8-1 in doubles on the way to a 6-3 team win over St. Mary's (Md.). Jin capped her week with a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory and an 8-1 doubles win to lead the WildCats to a 7-2 triumph over Stevenson.
