ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- The final weekly report of the season is here with Week 35 in the books. All sports have either completed or are in the midst of their conference tournaments. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Tuesday, May 3, include (pictured from left and top): Taylor Garcia from Washington and Lee women's tennis, Reid Long from Bridgewater baseball, Avery Neaves from Lynchburg baseball, Canon Secord from BC men's tennis, Allie Schwab from W&L women's lacrosse, and Chris Darminio from Lynchburg men's lacrosse.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Reid Long | Bridgewater | So. | Starter
Long, a sophomore from Chesapeake, Va., helped Bridgewater secure the fifth seed in the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament by earning a victory over nationally sixth-ranked Lynchburg. Long worked 6.1 strong innings, giving up just two runs while scattering seven hits to the conference's highest-scoring offense. He walked two batters and struck out three batters to improve to 10-1 on the year, the most wins in the ODAC. He is second in the league with a 1.99 earn run average. Long has made 11 appearances including 10 starts covering 63.1 innings of work. He has struck out 54 batters and opponents are hitting .234 against him.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Avery Neaves | Lynchburg | Jr. | OF
Neaves, a junior from Reston, Va., continued his stellar campaign in leading Lynchburg to a trio of wins and keeping himself atop several ODAC offensive categories including those associated with the traditional "triple crown." Neaves belted four homers and drove in 11 runs last week as the nationally sixth-ranked Hornets wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. He went deep twice in a 16-7 non-conference win over Pfeiffer. He drove in six runs with his two three-run homers and scored four times while walking once. In an 11-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney, Neaves again left the yard twice as part of a 3-for-4 day. He hit a two-run shot in the first, drove in a run with a single in the fourth, and bashed a solo homer in the sixth to start Lynchburg to a 10-0 lead. Neaves numbers came down out of the rafters in a series split with Bridgewater. He singled and drove in a run in game one, a 6-2 loss. He reached base twice in game two with his second and third walks of the week, scoring once in a 12-6 victory. For the season, Neaves leads the ODAC in runs (57), homers (13), RBI (58), total bases (114), walks (47), batting (.409), OBP (.568), and slugging (.832). He is third in doubles (15).

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Darminio | Lynchburg | Jr. | Long-stick Midfielder
Darminio, a junior from Sykesville, Md., has been expert as Lynchburg's long-stick midfielder, scoring goals in six straight games including a pair last week to help the Hornets secure the #2 seed in the ODAC Tournament. In a 20-8 win over Bridgewater, the All-American hopeful picked up a pair of ground balls and caused two turnovers while also getting forward for a goal in his fifth straight game. He increased that run to six games with a goal and an assist in a 13-10 win over Hampden-Sydney. He continued his strong midfield play with four ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers to key the Hornets attack. For the season, Darminio is third in the ODAC with a career-best 81 ground balls and tied for sixth with 21 caused turnovers. He has registered eight points on a career-high matching seven goals with one assist.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Canon Secord | Bridgewater | Sr.
Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., closed the regular season with a 3-1 week in top flight action. He was responsible for Bridgewater's point in an 8-1 team loss to Virginia Wesleyan. He defeated Mitchell Perry, 6-2, 6-0, at #1 singles. He and #1 doubles partner Matthew Leonard dropped a 6-8 decision to Perry and Felix Bevc. Secord and Matthew Gordon picked up an 8-1 win over Nicolas Alvarado and Alex Kulvivat in a 7-2 team triumph over Randolph. Secord then won 6-4, 6-1 over Alvarado in singles action.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allie Schwab | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Attack
Schwab, a junior from Bryn Mawr, Pa., helped Washington and Lee wrap up another undefeated ODAC regular season with a pair of victories over teams that qualified for the conference tournament. Schwab registered six points in a 18-5 win at Bridgewater. She scored once and dished out a career-high five assists. She was 1-for-1 on free-position shots and picked up a ground ball. Schwab then helped lead the Generals to a 23-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan. She handed out two more assists and collected a pair of ground balls with one caused turnover in Virginia Beach. For the season, Schwab is fourth in the ODAC in assists (25) and eighth in points (57). She has scored 32 goals.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Garcia | Washington and Lee | Sr. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Garcia, a senior from Mandeville, La., went 6-0 combined between top-flight singles and doubles play to lead Washington and Lee to a trio of ODAC team victories. Garcia partnered with Margaret Carlton in doubles play in a 6-0 victory over Lynchburg. The pair defeated Christina Harris and Lauren Pascadlo, 8-5, with Garcia following with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Harris in singles play. Garcia then did not drop a set the rest of the week. She and Carlton posted an 8-0 victory over Hannah Pardue and Jolie Nhouyvanisvong in doubles play against Guilford. Garcia then topped Pardue, 6-0, 6-0, in their singles tilt towards a 9-0 team win. The Generals defeated Hollins, 9-0, as well. This time Garcia paired with Gabi Moss for an 8-0 doubles win over Krishna Agrawal and Amelia Shaw. She then down Agrawal, 6-0, 6-0, in singles play. Garcia is now 10-5 in all singles matches this season including 8-4 at #1 and 3-0 in the ODAC. She is 9-6 in doubles action with several partners.
