ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Basketball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- Week 25 marks the largest report of the season with a full slate of spring sports joining basketball in the final week of "crossover season." Softball, women's lacrosse, and tennis honors its first athletes of the year with baseball and men's lacrosse continuing and basketball wrapping up its regular season with this week's ODAC Tournament beginning Monday evening.

Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, February 20, include (pictured top-botom, left-right): Tyler Hadley from Lynchburg men's lacrosse, Caroline Kranich from Washington and Lee women's lacrosse, Robert DiSibio and Mary Schleusner from W&L men's and women's basketball, Evan Blair from W&L baseball, Taylor Sullivan from Averett softball, Allie Schab and Hudson Pokorny from W&L women's and men's lacrosse, Elizabeth Teefey from LYN women's tennis, Federico Maccari from Roanoke men's tennis, Gracie Dooley from LYN softball, and Ethan Currin from Hampden-Sydney baseball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

  • Mondays: basketball, baseball, lacrosse, softball, tennis
  • Tuesdays: indoor track & field -- outdoor track & field when the indoor season concludes
  • Wednesdays: m/w golf once the spring season begins

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Evan Blair | Washington and Lee | So. | Reliever
Blair, a sophomore from Vienna, Va., came in and not only stopped the bleeding as a relief option for Washington and Lee, but dominated Ursinus College in his four frames to help the Generals post a 9-8 victory over the Bears. Blair faced the minimum following an unblemished 12-out appearance after entering with W&L trailing, 4-3, in the fourth inning and left with the Generals ahead, 8-3, through seven frames. Blair struck out five batters, including two apiece in his final two innings.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ethan Currin | Hampden-Sydney | Sr. | Catcher/DH
Currin, a senior from Toano, Va., was a juggernaut at the dish in leading Hampden-Sydney to three wins to open the 2023 season. Currin belted four homeruns and drove in 11 runs overall with a 1.583 slugging percentage and 2.146 OPS. In H-SC's schedule-opening 6-4 victory at Williams Peace, H-SC's designated hitter doubled and walked in five plate appearances with a RBI. Again serving as a DH in the first of two games on Saturday, Currin blasted two homers and drove in five runs while scoring three times in a 15-4 win over Mary Baldwin. He also drew a pair of walks. He again smacked two homers and drove in five as he took up position behind the plate in the Tigers 14-4 victory over Washington College later on Saturday. He added a single and scored five times to complete his line.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Robert DiSibio | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Forward
DiSibio, a junior from Sandy Hook, Conn., picks up his second ODAC weekly award of the season after leading Washington and Lee to pair of conference victories to lock up the #5 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. DiSibio cracked 1,000 points for his career in the Generals 97-75 midweek victory over Randolph College. He poured in 21 markers on 8-of-18 from the field with a pair of made three-pointers. He was also 3-of-4 from the line and added nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a blocked shot in a busy 32-minute shift. DiSibio spent 35 minutes on the floor to help W&L to a big regional victory over 16th-ranked Hampden-Sydney, 96-86 in the regular season finale. He registered 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting including a 5-for-5 showing from deep. He canned all four of his foul shots and chipped in four rebounds and four assists. Entering the ODAC Tournament, DiSibio leads the conference in scoring (21.9), points scored (548), and free throws made (147-of-175). he is second in field goals made (172-of-354) and free throw shooting (84.0%), and fourth in three-pointers made (57-of-145).

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Hadley | Lynchburg | Sr. | Goalkeeper
Hadley, a senior from Summit, N.J., helped Lynchburg move to 2-0 on the season with a 14-5 victory over 2022 United East Conference champion St. Mary's College (Md.) on Saturday. Hadley faced 35 shots with 19 on-target for his cage. He made 14 stops -- the second-most of his career -- on a 73.7 save percentage. That included a five-save third quarter to shutout the Seahawks in that frame. Hadley added a ground ball to his stat line.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hudson Pokorny | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Attack
Pokorny, a senior from Darien, Conn., came up huge in the clutch for nationally 17th-ranked Washington and Lee as he tallied the game-winning goal in overtime in the Generals 11-10 triumph over seventh-ranked York College (Pa.) on Saturday in their season-opener. Pokorny scored the decider with just over two minutes remaining in the extra frame. He finished with a game-high and career-best five points on two goals and a career-high three assists. His first goal came with 7:00 on the second quarter clock spurred a 9-3 run that the Generals used to complete their come-from-behind victory.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Federico Maccari | Roanoke | Fy. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Maccari, a first-year from Reggio Emilia, Italy, opened ODAC play with a pair of victories to help Roanoke start the 2023 spring campaign with an 8-1 team victory over Randolph College. Maccari team with Julio Marques to post an 8-7 (7-6) win at #1 doubles over Nicolas Alvarado and Dev Mani. Maccari then legged out a second win over Alvarado at #1 singles as he recovered from a 4-6 loss in the first set to win 6-3 in set two and 13-11 in the final frame.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Sullivan | Averett | Jr. | Pitcher
Sullivan, a junior from Timberlake, N.C., began her season with a dominating start from the circle in Averett's 11-3 triumph over Salem College in game one of a two game sweep of the Spirits. Sullivan worked the first four innings and did not allow a run in picking up the victory in the six-inning contest. She gave up three hits and did not walk about a batter. Of the 12 outs she record, 10 came via strikeout as Sullivan fanned the side in the first and fourth innings.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gracie Dooley | Lynchburg | Sr. | Outfielder
Dooley, a senior from Bedford, Va., was an unsuccessful stolen base attempt away from a perfect weekend in helping Lynchburg to a season opening sweep (10-3, 12-1) at William Peace University. Dooley reached base in all eight of her plate appearances on the way to posting a 1.000/1.000/2.000 slash line. In game one, the Hornets leftfielder went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. She also scored two runs. In game two, Dooley went 2-for-2 with another double and a two-run homer in the third inning. She scored three more runs, walked twice, and stole a base.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mary Schleusner | Washington and Lee | Fy. | Forward
Schleusner, a first-year from Charlotte, Va., helped Washington and Lee secure the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a pair of league wins last week. The Generals now boast a 16-2 conference record, tying the program record. At 19-6 overall, they are one win shy of tying the program record for wins in a season. Schleusner was efficient in terms of percentages and against time on the floor in W&L's two victories last week. That started with an 18-minute shift in an 86-43 win at Hollins University. She posted 10 points and seven rebounds while shooting 57.1-percent (4-of-7) from the field. She canned both of her free throws, came away with three steals, and was right on her ODAC league-leading average with three blocked shots. In game two, Schleusner registered 19 points and eight boards in 22 minutes on the court in the Generals 71-48 win over Shenandoah in the regular seasons finale. She was 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the field and made her lone free throw. She dished out two assists and posted five steals along with six blocked shots to move her into second in the W&L single-season record books with 75 rejections. For the season, Schleusner leads the ODAC in blocks, total rebounds (283), and offensive rebounds (88). She is second in rebounding average (11.3) and defensive boards (195), fourth in field goals made (135-of-301), and fifth in scoring (13.4) and total points scored (336).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Caroline Kranich | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Goalkeeper
Kranich, a junior from State College, Pa., stood up strong in a battle of nationally top-10 ranked teams to help #10 Washington and Lee to a 15-8 victory over sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College. The win also marked the first collegiate victory for Generals first-year head coach Maddie Coleman. Kranich posted a career-high 11 saves with a 57.9 save percentage in a full 60-minute shift. She added two ground balls to her personal stat line. Kranich saved one of the Diplomats' two free-position shot attempts with the other going wide. She made five of her stops in the second quarter against allowing just one tally, helping the Generals to a 7-3 halftime advantage.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allie Schwab | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Attack
Schwab, a senior from Bryn Mawr, Pa., helped nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee open the season and head coach Maddie Coleman's collegiate head coaching career with a win in a clash of top-10 ranked teams. Schwab, a preseason All-American by the IWLCA, registered five points in the Generals 15-8 triumph over sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College. She scored four goals and dished out an assist. Schwab scored W&L's first goal to knot the game at 1-all. She added the final goal of the first frame for 6-2 advantage, and then bookended halftime with her third and fourth goals, the latter giving W&L an 8-3 lead just 47 seconds in the third period.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elizabeth Teefey | Lynchburg | Sr. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Teefey, a senior from Amelia, Va., kicked off her 2023 spring season with a pair of victories in top flight action to help Lynchburg to an 8-1 team victory over Mary Baldwin University. Teefey took down Katlyn Massie in #1 singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets win. She teamed with her sister, Grace, in posting an 8-1 victory over Gretchen Lutz and Massie at #1 doubles. The pair was an All-ODAC First Team doubles team last year, while Elizabeth was a first team pick at #3 singles.
