ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- April signifies the stretch run for any Division III season, and that is no different this year with Week 31 reporting marking the first days of the month. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, April 3, include (pictured top-bottom, left-right): Evan Erb from Washington and Lee men's tennis, Allie Schwab from W&L women's lacrosse, Luke Kammerman from Roanoke men's lacrosse, Lauren Long from W&L women's tennis, Wesley Arrington and Emily Charlton from Lynchburg baseball and softball, Will Perry from Hampden-Sydney men's lacrosse, Sam Van Belle from W&L women's lacrosse, Carrson Atkins from LYN baseball, and Julia Piotrowski from Virginia Wesleyan softball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wesley Arrington | Lynchburg | Sr. | Starter
Arrington, a senior from Keswick, Va., took the ball for Lynchburg twice against ODAC foes this week and earned a pair of conference victories for the nationally 11th-ranked Hornets. Arrington started and worked the first five innings towards a 7-4 victory over Hampden-Sydney College. He allowed one run on three hits. He did not walk a batter and fanned six Tigers. He rolled up six ground ball outs and retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced with the lone baserunner reaching via error. Arrington followed up his Tuesday start with seven one-hit innings to earn a 13-1 win over Eastern Mennonite. He gave up one run and walked a batter, but made up for the free pass with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He opened game by setting down 17 of the first 20 Royals he faced with two hit batsmen and a walk his only blemishes until allowing an RBI triple in the sixth inning. For the season, Arrington is 3-0 in eight appearances including five starts covering 28.2 innings of work. He has struck out 35 batters towards a 10.99 K's/9 ratio, fourth best in the ODAC. He owns a 3.77 ERA and opponents are hitting .227 off him.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carrson Atkins | Lynchburg | Gr. | Centerfield
Atkins, a graduate student from Charlottesville, Va., played both ever-present baserunner and run-producer roles in helping nationally 11th-ranked Lynchburg post a 4-0 week against a trio of foes. Atkins slashed .643/.688/1.286 over the four contests, going 9-for-14 with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI with nine runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. He open with a 2-for-4 day in a 7-4 triumph over Hampden-Sydney. He doubled and scored a run against the Tigers. Atkins then reached base on on 4-of-5 occasions in a 14-6 mauling of 14th-ranked Christopher Newport University. He went 3-for-3 with a walk while blasting a two-run homer in the sixth to go with a RBI sac bunt to score a run in the third and a RBI double in the seventh. In a sweep (5-3, 13-1) of Eastern Mennonite, Atkins went 4-for-7 with a double in game one and a grand slam to power a six-RBI effort in game two. He posted his second three-hit game of the week in the latter contest. For the season, Atkins is slashing .378/.478/.662 with his SLG ranking sixth in the ODAC. He is third with five homeruns to go with six doubles and 22 RBI.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Will Perry | Hampden-Sydney | Sr. | Goalkeeper
Perry, a senior from Roanoke, Va., played a big role in Hampden-Sydney staying unbeaten in the ODAC table and within striking distance of the USILA's top-20 with a pair of conference wins last week including a quadruple-overtime thriller over nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee. Perry guarded his net for the full 72:29 of game-time before Campion White found the net for the game-winner 29 seconds into the fourth extra period. Perry made 15 saves over the course of the game with three coming during the overtime frames. He posted a 60.0 save percentage after seeing 40 shots fired his direction with 25 on-goal. He added a ground ball to his line. On the weekend, Perry started but only played 6:25 of the contest with the Tigers posting a 22-4 triumph over Averett. For the season, owns the league's second-best goals against average at 10.04. He has made 97 saves on a 53.6 save percentage, the latter ranking fifth in the ODAC.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Luke Kammerman | Roanoke | Jr. | Attackman
Kammerman, a junior from Trumbull, conn., posted a 14-point week to help Roanoke post a pair of conference wins and sit 4-0 atop the ODAC table. Kammerman began his week with five points on four goals and an assist in a 26-7 win at Guilford during the midweek. Two of his goals came via man-up situations. His final goal with 6:26 to go in the third quarter marked his 200th career point. Kammerman added nine more points to his career tally in a 19-5 win over Shenandoah on Saturday. He scored four times to increase his career total to 100 goals, while his five assists give him a Roanoke fifth-best 109 helpers all-time. For the season, Kammerman leads the ODAC in points (59) and is second in goals (33) and assists (26). He is also #1 in shots (105) and shots on target (64).

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Evan Erb | Washington and Lee | So.
Erb, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., collects his ODAC-best third weekly award of the season after helping the nationally 25th-ranked Generals to a trio of ODAC wins over the past week. Erb went 5-0 overall with a pair of wins at #1 singles and a trio of triumphs with partner Evan Brady at #1 doubles. The pair is the fifth-ranked doubles tandem in the ITA's Atlantic South Region. Erb, the fourth-rated singles player in the region, joined Brady for an 8-0 victory over Bridgewater's Matthew Leonard and Noah Hughes in Washington and Lee's 9-0 team win. W&L's duo then defeated Levi Vigdorchik and Alex Rintoul, 8-4, in a 9-0 squad win over Lynchburg. Erb topped Vigdorchik, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5, to collect a second point. The Generals #1 player made it two singles wins on the week in a 7-2 triumph over Averett. Erb defeated Shori Nishizoe, the 24th-ranked player in the region, by a 6-1, 6-3 tally. Erb and Brad posted an 8-5 victory over Rufus Nurminen and Martinho Goncalves in doubles play. For the season, Erb is 15-5 in all singles matches including an 11-2 mark at #1. He and Brady have teamed up for 26 doubles matches, going 20-6 overall with an 11-4 mark from the top flight.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Charlton | Lynchburg | Jr. | Pitcher
Charlton, a junior from Chesapeake, Va. put together three good starts for nationally 16th-ranked Lynchburg, posting two wins and helping the Hornets to a 3-3 overall record fo the week. Charlton went the distance in a six-inning shortened effort to earn a 9-1 victory over Marymount University (Va.). She allowed just one run on five hits. She walked fun and struck out one batter. She faced just one batter over the minimum, needing just 70 pitches to record 21 outs. She retired eight straight batters at one point through the middle innings. Charlton tossed a full seven frames on the way to a 2-0 three-hit shutout of Guilford. She did not walk a batter and fanned seven Quakers. All three Guilford hits came in the seventh inning as Charlton set down the first hitters she faced. Charlton was not involved in the decision in her final start of the week, a 4-3 loss to Ferrum. She worked the first five innings and outside of a three-error inning in which three unearned runs scored, she was again strong in the circle. She gave up three hits and walked one batter with a strikeout. For the season, Charlton is 5-3 in 12 appearances including eight starts covering 53.1 innings. She has struck out 33 batters and owns a 2.23 ERA. Opponents are hitting .222 against her.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julia Piotrowski | Virginia Wesleyan | Jr. | Right Field
Piotrowski, a junior from Franklin Square, N.Y., collects her first ODAC weekly honor after helping nationally sixth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan post a 6-0 week all on the road with sweeps of Mary Washington (8-1, 4-2), Averett (9-4, 10-1), and Guilford (8-0, 5-0). Piotrowski slashed .500/.542/.650 in going 10-for-20 with hits in all six games. She drove in seven runs, scored four times, and stole eight bases with at least one swipe in five of the six outings. At Mary Washington, Piotrowski went 4-for-7 with two RBI in each game. She stole three total bases, two coming in game one. She was 3-for-8 with a walk at Averett. She doubled and scored twice in game two and stole a base in game one. In Greensboro, Piotrowski went 3-for-5 against the Quakers with a pair of walks. She triple and drove in three runs in game one. She scored once and stole two bases in both games. For the season, Piotrowski is top-five in the ODAC in all three percentages -- .423 batting, .488 OBP, and .676 slugging. She leads the ODAC with eight doubles and is fifth with 30 hits. She has driven in 15 runs and is second with 48 total bases.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sam Van Belle | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Defense
Van Belle, a senior from Lebanon, N.J., spearheaded a pair of defensive efforts that helped nationally second-ranked Washington and Lee improve to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in ODAC games. The Generals limited Shenandoah and Guilford to a combined 23 shots over two games with 15 total on-cage. Van Belle was a key feature in W&L's transition defense in the Generals 19-9 win at Shenandoah. She caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls while also helping W&L turnover the field on 11-of-12 successful clear attempts. W&L forced SU into 15 total turnovers of the game. Just seven shots (four on target) were attempted on Washington and Lee's goal in a 23-1 win over Guilford. Van Belle caused one of 15 GC turnovers and helped W&L convert 8-of-8 clears and limited the Quakers to 3-of-13. For the season, Van Belle is seventh in the ODAC with 18 caused turnovers and sixth with 27 ground balls.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allie Schwab | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Attack
Schwab, a senior from Bryn Mawr, Pa., joined the 100-career goal club at Washington and Lee as she scored five times as part of a six-goal week to help the nationally second-ranked Generals to a pair of ODAC victories last week. In a 19-9 win at Shenandoah, Schwab registered her second game of at least three goals this season. Her first goal reached the century mark for her career. She was 1-of-2 on free position shots and added a ground ball and a draw control to her stat line. Schwab added to her career marks against Guilford as she registered three more points in a 23-1 victory. She scored twice to give her 104 goals for her career and added an assist. She was 1-of-1 in free position attempts and chipped in a ground ball. For the season, Schwab has posted 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Long | Washington and Lee | Fy.
Long, a first-year from Carmel, Ind., picks up her second ODAC weekly honor in as many weeks after helping nationally 25th-rank Washington and Lee to three of its four team victories last week. Long went 6-0 at top flight singles and doubles play with the Generals posting 9-0 victories over Averett, at 33rd-ranked Christopher Newport, and at Virginia Wesleyan. W&L also topped Shenandoah, 7-2, in a fourth match. Long partner with Gabi Moss as a fairly new doubles pairing in all three matches. They posted an 8-3 win over Averett's Keira Gunning and Brenda Poulikidas. Long added a 6-3, 6-2 victory in singles play. Rated second in the Atlantic South Region, Long defeated regionally fifth-ranked Raine Weis from CNU, 6-4, 6-0. She and Moss posted an 8-7 (9-7) win over Weis and Tessa Trate, the third-ranked duo in the region. W&L's duo earned an 8-1 win over Alexa Brewster and Christine Zalameda from VWU. Long collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brewster in singles action. Long has now won eight straight singles matches to improve her record to 12-3 overall with a 10-2 mark at #1. She and Moss are 4-0 as a doubles team. Long is 14-8 overall in doubles matches including 9-5 from the top flight.
