W&L's Korte Named ODAC Field Hockey's Top Player
LC's Weir, Steele Win Rookie and Coaching Awards

SALEM, Va. --- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) field hockey tournament champion Lynchburg College put four players on the league's all-star first team list, but it was Washington & Lee University that took home the top individual honor of the season.  General midfielder Kendall Korte led a pair from Lexington on the All-ODAC First Team as she was named the 2006 Player of the Year.

Lynchburg, also the winner of the regular season schedule, picked up a pair of yearly honors.  First year standout Allie Weir was named the conference's Rookie of the Year while Hornet mentor Enza Steele was named the ODAC's Coach of the Year.  Randolph-Macon College's Torrie Higgins earned the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for her performance both on and off the field, and Eastern Mennonite University was presented the team Sportsmanship Award by the conference officials.

Korte, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., finished the season with a team third best 20 points on six goals and eight assists.  Her eight scoring passes led the team and was good enough for fourth in the conference fixtures.  She also netted one game-winning goal and helped her team on the other side of the ball with one defensive save.  She adds this season's first team nod to one her a year ago.

Weir, from Richmond, Va., proved the league's top scoring option in her first season of play.  She totaled conference-bests 65 points and 29 goals, good enough for 3.25 points per game.

Coach Steele enjoys her seventh ODAC top coaching honor and second in the last three seasons.  She picked up her 400th career victory this season and led her Hornet squad into the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament after claiming the league championship.

RMC's Higgins, a senior from Fairfax, Va., notched a goal and a pair of assists on the season for the Yellow Jackets.  She's a standout in the classroom, boasting a 3.95 grade point average while double-majoring in biology and psychology.
