LC's Milks Named a NFHCA All-American for Third Time

Hornets Put Four on All-Region Teams

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College senior midfielder Shelly Milks was named an All-American for the third time by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Tuesday.  Milks earned recognition on the first team for the second straight season.  Her accolades are joined by those of Hornet teammates Lindsay Leonard, Nicole Marburger and Melanie Tenney, who each earned All-Region honors.

Milks, from Gloucester, Pa., was a second team honoree in addition to her pair of first team trophies.  Undoubtedly a dominant player on the field, Milks was equally adept in the classroom, having earned each of the past two ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards in addition to being named the ODAC Player of the Year each of the past three seasons.  She boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average as an Exercise Physiology major and a Spanish minor.  She earned recognition on the 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team in addition to be named to the All-ODAC Academic Team three times.  On the field, Milks scored 11 goals and assisted on 11 more tallies, which put her second on the team with 33 points.  She routinely helped out on the defensive end as well, stopping opposing attacks and clearing the ball out of the zone.

Leonard, a senior from Yorktown, Va., joined Milks on the All-South Region First Team.  She led the ODAC in goals scored the past two seasons, depositing 22 shots into opposing cages this season. Leonard finished her Lynchburg career with 79 goals, good for sixth in school history.

Tenney and Marburger earned recognition on the All-South Region Second Team.
The duo provided strong leadership along the back line to limit the opposing team to very few opportunities to score. The LC defense posted a 0.95 goals-against-average and notched 11 shutouts.  Tenney, a junior from Yorktown, Va., scored once and registered a team-best five defensive saves. Her nine career defensive saves are good for eighth on the LC all-time list.  Marburger, a junior a from Boyertown, Pa., notched four goals and five assists on the season.
