SU's Rampale, VWC's Puccio Take Home Individual Honors
FOREST, Va. --- Bridgewater College received a pair of special honors as part of the All-ODAC Field Hockey Awards. Eagles' midfielder Caroline Augsburger was tabbed the ODAC Player of the Year, while BC mentor Allyson Kenyon earned ODAC Coach of the Year laurels. Shenandoah University goalkeeper Jenna Rampale garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Virginia Wesleyan College defender Tanya Puccio was recognized as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Scholar-Athlete.
Augsburger, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., put together a stellar season roaming the middle of the field and linking the offense and defense for the Eagles. She's fourth in the ODAC with eight assists, adding 11 goals for 30 total points. Those two totals rank seventh and sixth in the conference, respectively. Two of her tallies were game-winning efforts. Twice she scored multiple goals in a game, including her first career hat-trick in a win over Eastern Mennonite. Her efforts helped BC to 52 total goals scored, second-best in the ODAC. Defensively, Augsburger helped BC surrender just 38 goals in 20 games played, good for a 1.84 goals-against-average.
Kenyon just wrapped up her 12th season guiding the Eagles field hockey program. This is the first ODAC top coaching honor in her career. Bridgewater posted similar overall records the past two seasons (12-7 in 2013, 12-8 in 2014), but improved from 5-3 to 7-1 in the ODAC standings, affording the Eagles the second seed in the ODAC Tournament and a bye into the semifinals. BC used overtime to defeat Shenandoah in that semifinal contest, propelling the squad into the program's first conference championship game appearance. Kenyon won her 100th career game against Washington and Lee earlier this season. Her career records currently stand at 106-114 (.482) overall and 46-48 (.489) in ODAC play.
Rampale, a freshman from Lindenhurst, Ill., protected a Shenandoah cage that allowed just 29 goals this season, the fewest in the conference. Rampale led the ODAC in goals-against-average (1.41) and save percentage (.804) while ranking fourth in both saves (115) and goals allowed (28). She played in and started all 19 Hornets' games this season, logging more than 1,393 minutes in pads. She recorded double figure save totals in four games this season, including a school-record and ODAC season-best 25 stops against the University of Mary Washington.
Puccio, a senior from Moorpark, Calif., is a star Marlin on and off the field. In the classroom, Puccio maintains a 3.90 grade point average as a Biology and Hispanic Studies double major with a minor in Chemistry. The VWC Batten Scholar is a five-time honoree on the Virginia Wesleyan College Dean's List. She is a member of several honor societies including Beta Beta Beta (biology), Gamma Sigma Epsilon (chemistry), Sigma Zeta (mathematics/natural sciences), Chi Alpha Sigma (athletics) and Phi Eta Sigma (freshman). On the field, Puccio was the highest scoring rookie for VWC in 2011 before becoming a standout at her current defensive position. She helped VWC allow just 43 goals this season for a 2.49 goals-against-average. She did get forward to score one goal in her 16 games played.
