NCAA Field Hockey | Lynchburg Advances to Second Round

DANVILLE, Ky. --- The 16th-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team overcame an early deficit to earn a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Centre in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

After Centre scored in the sixth minute, Emily Dudley scored following a penalty corner to knot the score, 1-1, in the 10th minute.

Lynchburg took the lead at the start of the fourth period, when the Hornets scored on a penalty stroke by Jackie Lerro.

The Hornets (19-3) advance to the tournament's second round for the second-straight season. They will head to Salisbury, Md., for the weekend's competition, beginning with a Saturday 2 p.m. contest against No. 8 Rowan.
