Burleson, a senior from Newport News, Va., helped the Eagles to a 3-0 week including a pair of ODAC wins to move them into third position with one game left to play in the regular season. The senior back provided defensive support in BC's 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite, marking the first win for the program over its cross-town rival since the 1982 season. Burleson then notched the only goal of the game in the Eagles 1-0 win at Sweet Briar on Saturday. She followed that with a goal and an assist in BC's 8-0 triumph at Hood, marking the road victories on the week.
Field Hockey Honor Roll
Jessica Blanks, East. Mennonite - (Jr,
M - Richmond, VA, 8)
Blanks was a spark plug for EMU last week, figuring in three of
their four goals over two games. She started a second-half rally
against No. 7 Christopher Newport, scoring in the 53rd minute and
assisting three minutes later. Against Bridgewater, Blanks scored
the Lady Royals' only goal. Heading into the final week of the
season, Blanks is fifth in the ODAC with nine goals and seventh
with 21 total points.
Ashley Nelson, Lynchburg - (Sr, M - Midlothian, VA,
16)
Nelson was the overtime hero for the Hornets in a 2-1 win over
Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. She ripped the first shot on
the LVC goalie and then took the rebound off of another shot and
put it in the back of the cage to give Lynchburg the win.
Shannon McCarthy, Roanoke - (Jr, MF -
Westport, MA, 20)
McCarthy scored Roanoke's lone goal in a 4-1 loss to
non-conference Lebanon Valley on Sunday. It marked her first
goal of the season.
Katie Torretti, Sweet Briar - (Fr, GK - Lemon Grove,
Calif/Bishops School, 55)
Torretti was busy in net for the Vixens as she made 33 saves over a
pair of games last week. She made 10 stops in a 9-1 loss to
Washington and Lee, and then came back with 23 stops to hold
Bridgewater to one goal in a 1-0 loss to the Eagles.
Charlotte MacDonald, Washington and Lee - (Fr, F -
Bluemont, Va., 7)
MacDonald had three goals and one assist in three games this week.
She scored two goals and an assist for five points against Sweet
Briar, and followed that with a goal in the 2-1 victory against
Virginia Wesleyan. She now has four goals and one assist in her
first season for the Generals.
