H-SC's O'Connell Shoots Six-Under for Individual Crown
HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Bridgewater College
fired rounds of 292 and 291 to win the 2011 Tom Kinder Memorial
Golf Tournament by 10 strokes over Washington and Lee University.
Seven of the ODAC's eight golf-sponsoring schools competed in
the event hosted by Bridgewater at Lakeview Golf Course.
Hampden-Sydney College sophomore Rick O'Connell won the individual
crown at six-under-par (138) after carding rounds of 70 (-2) and a
tournament-best 68 (-4) over his two rounds of action. BC
seniors John Phillips and Travis Gahman finished second and third
at four-under (70-70) and two-under (71-71). W&L
sophomore Jack Cottrill was fourth at one-under (70-73), and senior
teammate Wilson Anthony (73-73) was joined by H-SC senior Ronnie
Fultz (71-75) and Lynchburg College junior Matt Lipscomb (71-75) in
three-way tie for fifth.

Bridgewater, ranked 25th in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches'
Poll, saw three of its four scoring players rank within the
top-eight of the tournament as Tod Foshee (75-73) joined Phillips
and Gahman in leading the Eagles. Hampden-Sydney posted the
best team round of the tournament during the second round with a
two-over 290.
The fall season picks up with earnest over the next week as No. 4
Guilford College and Bridgewater head down to Howey-in-the-Hills,
Fla., to play in the NCAA Division III Preview tournament.
Hampden-Sydney will open its hosting slate with the annual
Hampden-Sydney Invitational at The Manor in Farmville.
Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College and
Virginia Wesleyan College are set to compete at The Manor.
