CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Guilford College senior
Noah Ratner was named the ODAC Golfer of the Year for a third
consecutive time at an awards ceremony in conjunction with the ODAC
Golf Championships at Bay Creek Resort and Club on Monday
evening. Fellow Quakers Corey Maggard and Nick Shedd were
also honored as Maggard secured his third straight Jack Jensen
Coach of the Year honor and Shedd was tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau
Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Hampden-Sydney College's Thomas
Cole earned ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades, while Shenandoah
University's Zach Ramey received the Ted Keller Sportsmanship
Award.
Ratner, a senior from Asheville, Va., has backed up his banner
junior season with a stellar senior year. The reigning NCAA
Division III Player of the Year and member of the 2012 All-Nicklaus
Team is currently ranked sixth in the country with a 72.80 strokes
per round average, according to the latest rankings by Golfstat
(www.golfstat.com). In nine completed events prior to the ODAC
Championships (in progress), Ratner has placed in the top-10 six
times with three top-five showings, including a season-best
second-place finish at the Davidson Invitational in early
March.
Maggard has earned the ODAC's top coaching honor in each of his
three seasons guiding Guilford. The Quakers are currently
rated seventh in the April 17th Golf World/Nike Golf
Division III College Coaches' Poll. The statistical rankings
on Golfstat rate the Quakers sixth with a 75.53 individual
average per round score. Guilford has won two events this
season, placing first at the season-opening Ted Keller Memorial in
October and the weather-shortened Pine Needles Intercollegiate in
late February.
Cole, a freshman from Glen Allen, Va., stepped right in to the
Tigers' five-man playing rotation, competing in 15 rounds entering
the ODAC postseason. He boasts a 78.0 round average, posting
a pair of top-10 finishes this season. His best showing came
at Hampden-Sydney Invitational in late September when he placed
sixth overall. His other top-10 was a seventh place showing
at Camp Lejeune in late March.
Shedd, a sophomore from Williamsburg, Va., stands out in the
classroom and on the golf course. The business management
major boasts a 3.79 grade point average. He is a three-time
member of Guilford's Dean's List as well as the Guilford
Student-Athlete Honor Roll. He was named to the All-ODAC
Academic Team as a freshman last year. On the course, Shedd
entered the weekend with a 76.1 per round average, which was tied
for ninth in the conference. He has finished in the top-10
three times, including an overall third-place showing at the Pine
Needles Intercollegiate.
