
Roanoke Ties for Second with Averett
LAUREL FORK, Va. --- Hampden-Sydney
College fired a two-round total of 618 to finish two strokes clear
of Averett University and Roanoke College atop the team standings
at the 2014 VSGA State Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.
Brian Burt led the way individually, finishing third at
four-over-par 146 (77-71) on the 6,878-yard par-72 layout at the
Olde Mill Resort in Laurel Fork, Va.
Eight ODAC schools took participated in the annual event.
After Roanoke (620) and Hampden-Sydney, Bridgewater College
(624) finished fifth and began a string of five straight conference
schools in the team rankings -- Shenandoah University (6th - 636),
Virginia Wesleyan College (7th - 640), Randolph-Macon College (8th
- 642), and Lynchburg College (9th - 646). Eastern Mennonite
University chimed in 11th position (682).
Burt, a national qualifier in 2013-14, was one of seven ODAC
golfers to finish in the top-10 individually in a field that
featured 55 total competitors. RC's William Brown (74-76) and
LC's Ned Jensen (70-80), the leader after the first 18 holes, tied
for fourth at six-over 150. R-MC's Kyle Fuller carded a pair
of 76's to tie for sixth at eight-over-par. BC's Ocean
Armstrong (76-77) occuppied eighth alone at nine-over 153, and
teammate Elijah Tackett (76-78) and VWC's Evan Cox (77-77) were two
of three players to tie for ninth at 10-over 154.
