ODAC Athletes of the Week | Golf

FOREST, Va. --- Week 29 reporting comes to a close with the selection of the ODAC Golfers of the Week. Conference teams and individual competed in eight different events with strong showings in each of those tournaments. Earning this week's ODAC Golfer of the Week awards are Washington and Lee junior Megan Kanaby and Guilford sophomore Sam Davidson following their efforts against large national fields at their respective Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitationals.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The following schedule will be used for awards reporting throughout the remainder of the spring season:

  • Mondays: baseball, softball, m/w lacrosse, and m/w tennis
  • Tuesdays: outdoor track & field
  • Wednesdays: m/w golf

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sam Davidson | Guilford | So.
Davidson, a sophomore from Asheboro, N.C., was the top ODAC finisher in a strong national field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. Davidson finished tied for 20th overall at 2-under par 214 following three rounds on the par 72 layout set to 6,700 yards on the Pine Lakes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga. He opened with an even-par 72 in round one and then followed up with a pair of 1-under 71's to finish in a tie with Ethan Wilkins from Illinois Wesleyan University at 214, nine shots back of medalist Alex Price from Christopher Newport. Davidson's efforts helped nationally 33rd-ranked Guilford to 12th place out of 24 scoring teams at 6-over par 870 (289-286-295). The Quakers' second (286) and first (289) scores mark their lowest team rounds of the year.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Megan Kanaby | Washington and Lee | Jr.
Kanaby, a junior from Chapel Hill, N.C., earns her second weekly award of the spring season after leading Washington and Lee in a competitive national field at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate. Kanaby, the 37th-rated golfer in Division III by Golfstat, finished in a tie for 12th overall at 8-over par 224 following three rounds on the par 72 layout set to 5,600 yards on the Indian Mound Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga. She opened with a 1-over 73 and followed up with rounds of 3-over 75 and 4-over 76 to tied with five other players at 224. Kanaby's efforts helped nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee break two ODAC and program records in placing eighth out of 24 teams. The Generals team score of 46-over 910 (296-303-311) set a new standard for 54-hole tournaments, while their opening round 296 is the lowest single round tally in ODAC and W&L history.
