Two Teams Plus an Individual Make Cut at NCAA Men's Golf

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. --- Plenty of drama ensued as play closed on day two of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. When the dust settled, two of the ODAC's squads made the cut as top-18 programs and one individual from the league's third program advanced to compete over the final three rounds at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky.

Guilford College improved 14 strokes from its first round of competition, posting a tournament-best 5-under 283 to move into a tied for seventh place with Illinois Wesleyan University at 4-over 580. Methodist University and Piedmont University stand atop the leaderboard at 3-under 573.

Washington and Lee University and Averett University hovered near the cut line throughout much of the latter portion of their rounds. The Cougars finished at 19-over 595 to rank 20th, missing the cut to continue to rounds three and four on Thursday and Friday, respectively. However, Max Petterson will carry Averett's flag over the final 36 holes as he was one of six individuals not on one of the teams inside the cut-line to advance. He shot 1-under 71 on the par-72 track set to 6,701 yards on the Keene Run course, tying for 25th overall at 1-over 145 when combined with his first round 74 on the Champion Trace course, which is playing at 6,974 yards at a par of 72.

The Generals finished in a tie for 18th with Transylvania University at 18-over 594, forcing a playoff to determine which team would advance. Three sudden-victory playoff holes were needed with W&L coming through in the end to earn the final team spot advancing to the third and fourth rounds.
