ODAC Golfers of the Week

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC golfers close Week 31 reporting with some of their best results of the season. Individual top-10 finishes -- including an event champion -- and team titles highlight the outstanding showing from league members at a handful of events over the past seven days. Golf fans have a lot to look forward to with preparations beginning over the next few weeks for the conference championship events at the end of the month. Earning this week's ODAC Golfer of the Week awards are Averett University sophomore Lilli Caroline Tamburstuen and Guilford College junior Sam Davidson.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

  • Mondays: baseball, lacrosse, softball, tennis
  • Tuesdays: outdoor track & field
  • Wednesdays: m/w golf

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sam Davidson | Guilford | Jr.
Davidson, a junior from Asheboro, N.C., boosted his Golfstat national ranking from #22 to #21 in Division III with a runner-up finish to help fourth-ranked Guilford College win the 50th Annual Camp Lejeune Championship in a playoff with #9 Oglethorpe University. Davidson was joined by teammate Michael Vick and OU's Tripp Murphy at 2-under par 214 following three rounds on the par-72 layout set to 6,851 yards at Paradise Point Golf Course in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The group was eight shots back of medalist top-ranked Alex Price from #2 Christopher Newport University. Davidson opened his tournament with a 1-under round of 71 powered by three birdies against two bogeys. He posted an even-par 18 holes in round two, burying six birdies against four bogeys and a double. He returned to red numbers in round three, registering five more birdies against four bogeys for another round of 71. Davidson's 14 birdies tied for the most in the tournament with Price. He matched Price and Lynchburg's Andrew Watson in par-5 scoring at 8-under par (4.33 strokes/par-5 hole). Guilford finished at 7-over 871 as a team with rounds of 288, 292, and 291. Davidson owns a 73.0 average covering 20 rounds of play this season, ranking fifth in the ODAC.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Lilli Caroline Tamburstuen | Averett | So.
Tamburstuen, a sophomore from Sandvika, Norway, collects her second straight ODAC weekly honor after winning the Camp Lejeune Women's Collegiate over the weekend. She is the first golfer in Averett women's history to win an event and earn medalist honors. Tamburstuen won the tournament by seven strokes after carding an 11-over 224 following three rounds of competition on the par-71 layout set to 5,505 yards at the Paradise Point Golf Course in Camp Lejeune, N.C. She opened with a 3-over 74 that featured a pair of birdies. She made three birdies in round two, helping her recover after a double bogey on her first hole for a 1-over 72. Tamburstuen capped her event with a 7-over 78 that featured two more birdies. She led all players in par-3 (3.13, +2) and par-4 (4.26, +7) scoring as well as total birdies (7). Averett finished second to Bridgewater College at 162-over 1,014 (333-335-346). Tamburstuen owns a 80.0 average over 14 rounds of competition this year, ranking 10th in the ODAC.
