Shelmire, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, kicked off her season in the best way possible by capturing her first collegiate medal in a strong national tournament field that featured eight of the top-25 teams in the Division III Mizuno Women's Golf Coaches' Association Preseason Poll. Shelmire won the NCAA Division III Fall Preview by one stroke over Kendall Nicholson from the University of Redlands, completing 36 holes at El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., at 2-over par 146. She opened with a 3-over 75, leaving her tied for seventh with four other players. Shelmire caught fire in round two with three birdies to card a 1-under 71, the second-lowest round on the par-72 track set to 5,600 yards. She made five birdies for the tournament and tied for first in par-3 scoring (2.75) on the way to topping the 93-player leaderboard. Her efforts helped 13th-ranked Washington and Lee to a third place team showing at 39-over 615 (309-306).
