2020 Women's Tennis Players of the Week

    De Souza, a first-year from Marilia, Brazil, went 6-2 combined in top flight singles and doubles play as she helped the Vixens go 3-1 in four matches last week. De Souza helped Sweet Briar recover from a 9-0 setback to regionally 10th-ranked Rhodes with two points in each of the next three matches, resuting in a 7-2 win over Webster (Mo.), a 6-3 triumph over Gordon, and a 5-4 victory over the College of Wooster. De Souza and Emily Wandling teamed together at #1 doubles in all three matches, posting a 8-3 win over Erin Brezovar and Maggie Federhofer from Webster, an 8-1 victory over Anne Carsey and Madison West from Gordon, and an 8-6 victory over Shannon Sertz and Joy Li from Wooster. De Souza claimed #1 singles wins via a 7-5, 6-2 result over Webster's Brezovar, a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Gordon's Carsey, and a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Wooster's Li.

    Jin, a senior from Kunming, China, put together a 6-2 week combined at #1 singles and #1 doubles, the latter all with partner Ashley Schmitz. Randolph went 3-1 in team results. Jin opened the week with her toughest outing as she dropped a singles match with W&L's Taylor Garcia, the 44th-ranked player in the country, via a 6-3, 6-3 line. She and Schmitz fell 8-4 in doubles action as the Generals claimed the match, 7-2. Jin recovered to go 6-0 over a three-day stretch beginning with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win and 8-1 doubles triumph in an 8-1 team victory over Johnson (Tenn.). She then won 6-2, 6-1 in singles and 8-1 in doubles on the way to a 6-3 team win over St. Mary's (Md.). Jin capped her week with a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory and an 8-1 doubles win to lead the WildCats to a 7-2 triumph over Stevenson.
