Lynchburg Alum will also Assist Track
BRIDGEWATER, Va. ---
Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall announced
Wednesday that Brian Flynn has been hired as the new men's and
women's cross country head coach. Flynn will also serve as an
assistant track and field coach for the Eagles.
"We are excited about the hiring of coach Flynn. He will bring a
lot of energy to our program and he will bring a competitive
atmosphere to both our men's and women's cross country teams,"
Kendall said.
Flynn comes to Bridgewater College after one year as a Division I
assistant coach at University of North Carolina-Greensboro. While
there, he coached four all-conference cross country runners and
helped lead the men's cross country team to its highest finish in
school history at the conference and NCAA regional meets.
Prior to coaching at UNC-G, Flynn spent three seasons as an
assistant coach in cross country and track and field at Coe
College, a Division III school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Flynn coached
five All-Americans and 13 conference champions.
Flynn is no stranger to the ODAC as he competed at Lynchburg
College where he was a four-time all-conference runner in cross
country. On the track he earned five ODAC individual titles and was
a 12-time all-conference nominee. He was a member of eight ODAC
championship track teams and two cross country championship
teams.
“The opportunity to coach in the conference I competed in was
really appealing and exciting to me,” said Flynn. “I
think I have prepared for the day I could have my own program and
I'm ready to take on the challenge of being a head
coach.”
The Bridgewater men placed fourth at the ODAC meet in 2009 and the
women finished fifth. Flynn is excited about leading the Eagles to
new heights in the future.
“The next challenge for Bridgewater cross country is moving
toward contending for the conference title with both teams,”
said Flynn.
Flynn is a member of the United States Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association and USA Track and Field.
