2018 Volleyball Tournament News


November 3, 2018
Second-seeded Washington and Lee University and top-seeded Randolph-Macon College traded jabs in the ODAC Volleyball Tournament championship match on Saturday afternoon in Ashland as each team won a set before a 15-8 result in the decisive fifth frame saw the Generals' captains lift the conference trophy.

Senior outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) totaled 14 kills and 17 digs to lead the second-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of third-seeded Bridgewater in the ODAC Tournament semifinals on Friday in a neutral-site match at top-seeded Randolph-Macon.

Top-seeded Randolph-Macon is headed back to the ODAC title match as the Yellow Jackets hit .305 on the way to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) victory over fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the conference tournament semifinals. R-MC will square off with second-seeded Washington and Lee at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.

For the second time this season, it took five sets to decide a winner between Randolph-Macon College and Washington and Lee University. Saturday's affair happened to be for a piece of hardware as the Yellow Jackets lifted their third straight and sixth overall ODAC volleyball trophy with a 3-2 victory over the Generals in Ashland.

Second-seeded Washington and Lee University punched its ticket to the ODAC title match with a 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-13, 25-21) victory over third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University in the semifinals of the ODAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday night in Crenshaw Gymnasium on the campus of Randolph-Macon College.

Top-seeded Randolph-Macon College moved one step closer to capturing its third straight ODAC title with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) victory over fifth-seeded Lynchburg College in the semifinals of the ODAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium in Ashland.

Randolph-Macon continued its strong play against ODAC opponents on Saturday afternoon, completing a straight-sets run thru the conference tournament that included a 3-0 victory over Washington and Lee for the ODAC title in Ashland. The championship is the fifth overall and second straight for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon College ran thru the conference regular season unbeaten for the second straight year, dropping just five sets on the way to securing the top seed in next week's ODAC Volleyball Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will be one of four teams to host quarterfinal matches slated for Wednesday.

The Lynchburg College volleyball team pulled off the upset Saturday morning in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference semi-finals against Randolph-Macon College with a final score of 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) to move on to the championship.

After a three-year hiatus, the Washington and Lee volleyball team is once again the ODAC Champions. The second-seeded Generals defeated fourth-seeded Lynchburg, 3-1, in the ODAC Tournament Championship on Saturday at Randolph-Macon to claim the title. W&L earns the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament, which is set to begin opening round play next week.

The Lynchburg College volleyball team advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship game after defeating top-seeded Randolph-Macon College, 3-1, early Saturday. LC won 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23 in a very close match, and it gave the team its highest win total since 1981.

In the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Randolph-Macon College, the second-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated third-seeded Bridgewater College, 3-0, on Saturday. Behind 21 kills from Mallory Carter, the Randolph-Macon volleyball team captured its third consecutive ODAC Championship with a 3-1 victory over Washington & Lee. R-MC is now 23-5 overall and will take part in the 2011 NCAA Tournament beginning next Friday at a time and location to be announced Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.

The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team secured its second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship with a 3-2 victory over top-seeded Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon in Roanoke.

Third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College rallied for a 25-18, 17-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-9 victory over number-six Guilford College Friday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal. The Marlins (22-9) advance to the tournament semifinals to play second-seeded Randolph-Macon College, which defeated Bridgewater College, 3-0. Guilford concludes its best volleyball season since 1995 with a 16-13 overall record.

The Lynchburg College volleyball team defeated Roanoke College in the quarterfinals of the ODAC on Friday night (27-29, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 15-6) in a five-set thriller. Lynchburg will now move on to the semifinal matchup on Saturday against the first-seeded Washington and Lee, which defeated Emory & Henry 3-0 earlier in the day.

Randolph-Macon won its first ODAC volleyball championship on Saturday afternoon, upholding its billing as the No. 1 seed with a 3-1 win over seventh-seeded Roanoke. The Yellow Jackets earn the ODAC's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

For the second straight year, the ODAC Volleyball Tournament championship match will feature the No. 1 and No. 7 seeded teams. Randolph-Macon continued to live up to its top billing with a straight sets win over Bridgewater. Roanoke kept its upset run in motion with a 3-1 over Lynchburg. Three of the top four seeds advanced in the ODAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday afternoon, with the lone upset shaking up the tourney field. Randolph-Macon (#1), Lynchburg (#3) and Bridgewater (#4) were joined by Roanoke (#7) after the Maroons ousted Washington and Lee (#2) from the tourney.
