ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball, Indoor Track & Field, Swimming

FOREST, Va. --- The late surge of winter weather throughout the region has added to the chaos of schedules throughout the league, but ODAC athletes continue to appear unphased with some national-caliber showings and personal-best performances highlighting the past week's results. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards include (pictured from top and left): Maria Vinson from Roanoke women's swimming, Geni Roberts from Virginia Wesleyan men's track & field, Connor Kinkema from RC men's swimming, Kaitlin Measell and Andre Jackson from Shenandoah women's and men's track & field, Shirell Washington from VWU women's track & field, and Kasey Draper and Renee Alquiza from Roanoke men's and women's basketball.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kasey Draper | Roanoke | So. | Guard/Forward
Draper, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., lit up the scoreboard with 55 total points over two games to help Roanoke to a pair of wins to improve the Maroons' season records to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Draper opened with 24 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field in an 80-59 triumph over Randolph. He added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals to his line. Draper then turned up the production and efficiency in a 78-68 victory over Washington and Lee. He set career-high for scoring for a second straight game with 31 points on 9-of-13 from the field and 12-of-14 from the foul line. He chipped in five rebounds, a block, and a steal as Roanoke rattled off their fifth consecutive win. For the season, Draper leads the ODAC in total points (116), field goals made (42-of-86) and free throws made (25-of-35). He is fourth in scoring average (19.3) and pulls down 7.3 boards per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Renee Alquiza | Roanoke | Jr. | Forward
Alquiza, a junior from Cornelius, N.C., put together a strong outing in helping the Maroons improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in ODAC play. Alquiza set a new career-high with 23 points in Roanoke's 61-52 triumph over Washington and Lee. She went 7-of-12 from the field including 2-of-3 from three-point territory and canned 7-of-8 shots from the charity stripe. She added in nine rebounds, two blocked shots, and a steal. For the season, Alquiza is averaging 14.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. She is second in the ODAC in blocked shots (8), third in field goal shooting (.533), and fourth in field goals made (32-60), three-point shooting (.444), and free throw percentage (.875).

MEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Geni Roberts | Virginia Wesleyan | So. | Jumps
Roberts, a sophomore from Ridgely, Md., continues to impress followers locally and nationally as he improved yet again on his previously established season-best and Virginia Wesleyan record marks in the long jump. Competing at the Kenneth Giles Invitational hosted by Norfolk State University, Roberts finished third overall in the event at 7.24 meters (23-9.0), shattering the VWU record he set last week (7.07m). It also improved his hold on the ODAC lead in the event and distanced himself by 0.19 meters from the second-best competitor in NCAA Division III. Roberts also competed in the triple jump at Norfolk State, again placing third overall at 14.03 meters (46-0.5). That leap is tops in the ODAC and ranks sixth nationally.

WOMEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kaitlin Measell | Shenandoah | Fy. | Jumps
Measell, a first-year from Chambersburg, Pa., went record hunting at the VMI Winter Classic over the weekend. Measell placed eighth overall in the long jump at 5.34 meters (17-6.25). The leap is #1 in the ODAC this season and snapped the previous Shenandoah record of 5.18 meters set by Jaclyn Mohlmann in 2015. Measell's mark is ranked 20th in NCAA Division III. She also competed in the triple jump at VMI, placing fourth in the event in 10.59 meters (34-9.0). That mark sits fifth in the ODAC this year.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Andre Jackson | Shenandoah | Fy. | Sprints
Jackson, a first-year from Waldorf, Md., was blistering in the sprints at the VMI Winter Classic. Jackson qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96-seconds, which is now the top mark in the ODAC and ranks 10th in NCAA Division III this season. He went on to place seventh overall in the finals at 7.03-seconds. Jackson also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing 25th overall at 24.57-seconds.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Shirell Washington | Virginia Wesleyan | Fy. | Hurdles/Sprints/Jumps
Washington, a first-year from Virginia Beach, Va., competed in six total events at the 1st Annual Kenneth Giles Invitational hosted by Norfolk State University. Washington had highlight showing in both the track and field categories of events. On the track, she showcased in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fifth overall in 9.33-seconds. That time is second-fastest in the ODAC and ranks 21st in NCAA Division III. She also went ODAC top-10 in two additional sprints. She chimed in 19th overall in the 200-meter dash in 27.55-seconds, which converts to 27.98-seconds for ODAC rankings (9th) due to track size. She added a 20th-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 8.48-seconds, which also rankings ninth in the ODAC. In the jumps, Washington took over third position in the ODAC in the triple jump at 10.86 meters (35-7.75), which placed fourth in the event and ranks 24th in the country. She added a 10th place leap in the long jump at 4.74 meters (15-6.75). Washington also ran a leg of the Marlins 4x400-meter relay team, which finished fourth in 4:21.07.

MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Connor Kinkema | Roanoke | Jr. | Breaststroke/IM
Kinkema, a junior from Collinsville, Va., picks up his second straight weekly award after helping Roanoke to a 174-20 win over Emory & Henry. Kinkema bettered his own ODAC best time (2:02.06) in the 200-yard IM by winning the event in 2:01.08. He also stopped the watches first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.68. He already owns the league's best mark in that event at 0:59.90. Kinkema helped his Roanoke teammates win the 400-yard medley relay in 3:37.90.

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Maria Vinson | Roanoke | Jr. | Freestyle/IM
Vinson, a junior from Richmond, Va., went top-five in a pair of ODAC events and helped the Maroons to a relay victory in Roanoke's 152-37 dual meet win over Emory & Henry. Vinson took over the top spot in the ODAC in the 200-yard IM with a winning time of 2:16.25. She also won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.43, which ranks fifth in the conference this season. Vinson helped her teammates stop the watches first in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:47.44, which is the second-fastest time behind the Maroons' previous-best mark (3:46.63).
