ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball, Swimming, Wrestling

FOREST, Va. --- Men's and women's basketball joins the ODAC weekly multi-sport report for the first time in week 11. All conference teams were in action with the season starting last Tuesday, joining wrestling and men's and women's swimming as active regular season sports. Those earning weekly honors for Tuesday, November 15, include (pictured, from left and top): Danny Bickey from Randolph men's basketball, Brynn Martinson and Dalton Jobe from Washington and Lee women's and men's swimming, Morgan Robinson from Roanoke wrestling, Rayshawn Dixon from Ferrum wrestling, and Kylie Stark from Randolph women's basketball.

Below are entries for all six winners from today's multi-sport release. As we wrap up the fall seasons and transition to winter sports, the schedule below will be used for report ODAC Athletes of the Week:

  • Mondays: basketball, swimming, wrestling
  • Tuesdays: indoor track & field (starts in December)

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Danny Bickey | Randolph | Sr. | Guard
Bickey, a senior from Beckley, W.Va., had a big start to his season in helping Randolph open its 2022-23 season with a 1-1 showing in non-conference action. Bickey buried 11-of-19 field goal attempts on his way to 25 points in an 86-65 season-opening setback to N.C. Wesleyan. He hit 2-of-5 shots from long distance and made his only foul shot. He added four rebounds, an assist, and a steal to his. Bickey then posted a career-high 34 points to help the WildCats level their record against USA South foes with an 87-83 win over Greensboro. Bickey was 11-of-17 from the field including 4-of-6 from downtown. He canned 10-of-11 free throws in his 36-minute shift. He chipped in a half-dozen rebounds and registered a steal.

MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Dalton Jobe | Washington and Lee | Fy.
Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., continued his strong first season in Lexington with a third ODAC weekly award. In a showdown with nationally 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, Jobe won an event and finished second in two others while improving upon his conference-best marks in two of those events. He won the 200-yard freestyle with a new ODAC season-best time of 1:42.56. He also improved upon his league-leading mark in the 200-yard individual medley, placing second at 1:56.80. His time of 0:46.92 in the 100-yard freestyle stopped the watches second and was just off his previously established season-best mark.

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Brynn Martinson | Washington and Lee | Jr.
Martinson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., continued her strong start to the season with three strong individual swims that featured times second only to her own ODAC seasonal-best marks of the season. She also helped Washington and Lee improve upon its already conference-leading time in a relay. In a showdown with nationally 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, Martinson won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:24.11. She added second place showings in the 100-yard (0:53.12) and 200-yard (1:57.63) freestyle events. Martinson was joined by teammates Bella Tarbet, Myla Rice, and Faith Sconing in posting a new ODAC top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:40.19, good for third in the event.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kylie Stark | Randolph | Jr. | Guard
Stark, a junior from Lynchburg, Va., got the season started off on the right foot for preseason second-ranked Randolph in helping the WildCats to a pair of non-conference victories. Stark shook off a 3-for-11 shooting day from the field with an 11-for-11 showing from the foul line in a 68-48 win over Apprentice School. She chipped in 10 rebounds to start the year with a double-double, and added five assists and a pair of steals. Stark got her shooting stroke back in game two with a 6-of-12 effort from the field in an 82-57 win at Salem College. She finished with 15 points and added seven rebounds with another five assists and two steals.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 165 LBS. AND HEAVIER
Rayshawn Dixon | Ferrum | Jr. | 285 lbs.
Dixon, a junior from Fayetteville, N.C., posted another 4-0 showing to win the 285-pound class at the Cougar Open hosted by Averett University. He is now 8-0 on the season and appears as the #4 ranked wrestler in the region and in the honorable mention category in the second rankings published by d3wrestle.com. Dixon opened with a 16-4 major decision victory over Joshua Hermann from Liberty. Dixon then pinned Caleb Hartung from Apprentice at 1:44, setting up two tough bouts in the semifinals and finals. He matched with Roanoke's Joshua Mancia in the semis and earned 3-1 decision. Dixon met Peter Cortapassol for the title and locked in a classic heavyweight grind where Dixon eventually won via 2-1 decision on a tiebreaker point. Dixon has now won titles in his first two events of the season.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 157 LBS. AND LIGHTER
Morgan Robinson | Roanoke | So. | 141 lbs.
Robinson, a sophomore from Front Royal, Va., went 5-0 with four falls on the way to his first title of the season at 141 pounds at the Cougar Open hosted by Averett University. Robinson, competing unattached in the event, opened with a fall after 31-seconds over Juston Shifflet from McDaniel. He then pinned Ferrum's Jonathan Ward following just 23-seconds of action. Robinson was leading his quarterfinal opponent, Enrique Sanchez from Bluefield State, 4-0 when he had to retire at the 3:13 mark due to injury. In the semifinals, Robinson pinned teammate Nick Kaufmann at 3:34, and then decked unattached Mauricio Reyes at 5:00-even to claim the crown.
