Colby Francis, Lynchburg, Freshman
April 22, 2013Francis, a freshman from Gladys, Va., finished third last week at the Heath Memorial hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School. He shot a 7-over par 149 (74-75) over two days to help LC place second, missing the team title by just one stroke. Francis leads Lynchburg with a 76.8 per round average, good enough for 13th in the conference. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
April 15, 2013Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., was the top ODAC finisher at the Methodist Spring Invitational, finishing tied for 11th in a field that included second-ranked Methodist, according to the team rankings by Golfstat. Cheng, rated 12th in the country individually by Golfstat, opened with a first round 88, but recovered for a five-over-par 77 in round two to finish +21 at 165. Cheng leads the ODAC with a 78.7 strokes per round average. -
Noah Ratner, Guilford, Senior
April 08, 2013Ratner, a senior from Asheville, N.C., placed third overall and led Guilford to a fifth-place showing at the Emory Spring Invitational, which featured several of the top-rated teams in NCAA Division III. Ratner opened with a one-over-par 73 before rattling of a four-under 68 in Tuesday’s second round, the second lowest round of the tournament at the Druid’s Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. He tied for third (141) with Methodist’s Mike Wesko, three shots back of medalist Anthony Maccaglia from Oglethorpe. The third-place performances marks Ratner’s fifth-straight top-seven finish. -
Andrea Walker, Bridgewater, Freshman
April 08, 2013Walker, a freshman from Warsaw, Va., turned in her third top-five finish of the season as she placed fifth overall at the Gettysburg Invitational over the weekend. Walker opened with a 91 in the first round, but improved five strokes in round two with an 86 to finish at 177 for the two-day event at Hanover Country Club in Abbottstown, Pa. She parred 11 holes over both rounds, including six on the final day. -
Drew Thompson, Guilford, Sophomore
March 25, 2013Thompson, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, picks up his second weekly awards of the 2012-13 year as he tied for fourth overall in the Gold Championship of the Marine Corps Intercollegiate at Camp Lejuene. He posted rounds of 70, 66 and 76 on the way to a two-under-par 212 at Paradise Point Golf Club, finishing two strokes behind individual medalist Mike Wesko from Methodist. Thompson's performance helped the 11th ranked Quakers place sixth in the field of 32. His second-round 66 is a career-low and tied for fifth in school history. His 36-hole score of 136 and his 54-hole score of 212 rank third and eighth, respectively, in Guilford history. -
Olivia Bowling, Randolph-Macon, Freshman
March 25, 2013Bowling, a freshman from Charlotte Hall, Md., tied for 13th at the Randolph-Macon Invitational over the weekend. She posted rounds of 87 and 79 on the way to a 22-over-par 166. Her second round 79 was the lowest individual round posted by an ODAC golfer at the event, and it also marked the lowest in Bowling's career. -
Patrick Clossin, Washington and Lee, Sophomore
March 18, 2013Clossin, a sophomore from Ooltewah, Tenn., led the Generals to a ninth-place finish at the Taylor Made Adidas Intercollegiate held at the Cotton Dike Course in Dataw Island, S.C., by finishing fifth overall. Clossin carded a 74-77-80--231 (+15) to finish 10 strokes behind the individual champion at the event. For the season, the sophomore is averaging 76.2 strokes over 13 rounds played. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
March 18, 2013Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., started off the spring campaign where she left off in the spring, corralling her third win of the year at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. After posting a first round score of 9-over 81, she followed up with a 1-under 71 marking the low-round of the tournament. She capped play with a 4-over 76 for a three-round total of 228 (12-over) on the par-72 5,838-yard track at Indian Mound Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga. The 120-player field was populated with 11 of the top 20 golfers in NCAA Division III. Cheng has placed in the top-five in all five events she's played this season. She leads the ODAC with a 76.3 per-round stroke average. -
Noah Ratner, Guilford, Senior
March 11, 2013Ratner, a senior from Asheville, N.C., placed second in the 60-man Davidson Invitational with a 36-hole score of 73-73--146. He helped Guilford finish seventh among 10 teams, all of which were NCAA Division I aside from the Quakers. Ratner finished one shot behind individual medalist Sam Echikson from the host Wildcats, who finished one-over-par on the 7,208-yard track at Rivier Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C. The performance was Ratner's best finish of the season (combined fall and spring) and his third consecutive top-seven result. He lowered his stroke average to a team-best 73.47, which also leads the ODAC. -
Teddy Corcoran, Washington and Lee, Freshman
March 04, 2013Corcoran, a freshman from Rochester, N.Y., was the individual medalist at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate hosted by Guilford College. He shot a two-under par 69 to win the weather-shortened event by one stroke. For the year, Corcoran has posted a 76.1 stroke average over 10 rounds played between the fall and spring campaigns. -
Noah Ratner, Guilford, Senior
November 05, 2012Ratner, a senior from Asheville, N.C., shot 74-69--143 to place seventh at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate over the weekend. He had the best finish by a non-Division I contestant and shared low-round honors with a 69 in the second round, which also marked his lowest 18-hole score of the year. Ratner's efforts helped the Quakers place ninth in the 13-team field, which was comprised of the Quakers and 12 NCAA Division I teams. He lowered his overall season stroke average to a personal season-low 73.7. -
Drew Thompson, Guilford, Sophomore
October 29, 2012Thompson helped Guilford place second at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial with a 72-72-144 (+4) that placed fourth in the 90-man field. He carded the Quakers' low score in both rounds and had the low score among the 36 ODAC contestants in the field. Thompson lowered his season stroke average to a team-best 73.90, which ranks second in the ODAC. -
Noah Ratner, Guilford, Senior
October 22, 2012Ratner, a senior from Asheville, N.C., shot 72-72-73---217 (+4) to place eighth among 90 golfers at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational. He helped Guilford place 10th among 18 teams, 16 of which were ranked in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches' Poll. Ratner lowered his early-season stroke average to a team-leading 74.0 after three rounds on the par 71, 6,793-yard course at Raven Golf Club. -
Olivia Bowling, Randolph-Macon, Freshman
October 22, 2012Bowling, a freshman from Charlotte Hall, Md., led the Yellow Jackets to a 13th place finish at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational in Sandestin, Fla. She shot a total of 250 on the week carding scores of 87, 81, and 82. She finished the tournament tied for 35th place overall after three rounds on the par 72, 5,880-yard course at Baytowne Golf Club. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
October 15, 2012Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., continues her consistent strong play for the Hollins golf team as she led HU to a ninth place finish at the Pat Clouse Invitational, hosted by Wittenberg University. Cheng fired a 14-over par 158 (80-78) to place in a tie for third out of 91 golfers on the 5,800-yard par 72 track at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio. She finished three strokes behind the leader. Cheng has participated in four events this fall with a pair of wins and a second place showing in addition to this weekend's third place finish. -
Kyle Fuller, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore
October 08, 2012Fuller, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., won tournament medalist for the first time in his collegiate career as he topped the field in the 11-team 66-golfer field at the Ted Keller Memorial, hosted by Randolph-Macon at Hunting Hawk Golf Club. The reigning ODAC Rookie of the Year posted a 2-under 70 to lead by one stroke after the first round on the par 72 6,882-yard track. The entire field battled the elements in round two, with Fuller recording a 3-over 75 to card a two-round showing of 1-over par 145 to win the event by two strokes over Scott Obenshain from Ferrum College. Fuller's efforts helped Randolph-Macon to a second place team showing behind nationally fifth-ranked Guilford College. Fuller now has three top-10 finishes so far this fall. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
October 08, 2012Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., won tournament medalist honor for the second time this season as she topped the field at the inaugural Generals Invitational, hosted by Washington and Lee University at the Lexington Country Club. Cheng turned in a 4-over 76 following the first round on the par 72 5,829 track. She came back with an even-par 72 to post a two-round total of 4-over par 148 to win the event by 11 strokes. Cheng, winner of three ODAC weekly honors, leads the ODAC with a 75.4 strokes-per-round average. -
John Dozier III, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman
October 01, 2012Dozier III, a freshman from Manakin-Sabot, Va., posted his second tournament medalist finish of the fall season on the way to his second weekly award of the campaign. He recorded a pair of under par rounds to win the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship title by seven strokes. He opened with a two-under par 68 and finished with a one-under 69 on the way to his two-day 137 on the 6,235-yard track at Danville Golf Club in Danville, Va. The two rounds in the 60's were the only sub-70 rounds of the event. Dozier's mark also set a VWC record for 36 holes, topping the former Marlin mark of 140 set by Cole Herrington in the 2004 Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Championship. He is the first VWC golfer to take medalist honors at the state event since 1989 when Albie Flanagan did it with a 75, defeating Lynchburg College's Charles Hutchinson in a sudden-death playoff. -

September 24, 2012Francis, a freshman from Gladys, Va., was the top ODAC finisher at the Tom Kinder Memorial at Lakeview Golf Course last week. Francis opened his collegiate career with an even par 72 on day one, but then followed with a 3-under par 69 in round two on the 6,500-yard par 72 track. His two-day 141 was good for third overall, seven shots off the lead and one stroke back of second place. His 69 was tied for the second-best round of the tournament behind individual champion Trevor Banks' (Va. Intermont) opening round 65. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
September 24, 2012Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., picks up her second weekly honor in as many weeks as she won the McDaniel Invitational over the weekend. Cheng fired a 2-over par 74 to win the event by four strokes over teammate Shelby Estes. In two tournaments this season, Cheng has a runner-up finish and an individual title while lowering her per-round average to 76.3. Her efforts helped Hollins win the team title by five strokes over Gettysburg. Cheng and Estes were the only two golfers to break 80 in the field. -
John Dozier III, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman
September 17, 2012Dozier, a freshman from Manakin Sabot, Va., started off his collegiate career with a bang as he won individual medalist honors at the season-opening Shenandoah Invitational at the Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Va. Dozier completed two rounds on the par 72 6,806-yard track in 4-over par 148 (73-75) to win by one stroke over Randolph-Macon's Scott Hellmuth and Newport News Apprentice golfer Ben Hunter. Dozier's first round 73 tied for with Hunter's opening-18 tally as the low-round of the tournament. -
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins, Junior
September 17, 2012Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., has the distinction of becoming the first women's golfer to earn an ODAC Golf of the Week award. At the Hollins Invitational, Cheng helped HU to the team title by finishing second overall and first among ODAC players on the 5,834-yard par 72 track at Ashley Plantation Golf Club. Her two round total of 155 (79-76) came in at 11-over par, two strokes behind Emily Javadi from Sewanee. Hollins' team total of 314 (158-126, +26) was took strokes clear of Sewanee for the team crown.
