2014-15 Indoor Track Athletes of the Week

  • Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Mid-Distance

    Chappell-Dick, a junior from Bluffton, Ohio, carved her name into the ODAC and Eastern Mennonite record books after a strong day at the UCS Invitational hosted at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Chappell-Dick placed sixth overall and tops among NCAA Division III competition in the mile run, eclipsing the 5:00-mark for the first time in her career with at 4:56.37. The time snapped her own EMU record of 5:05.65 set earlier this season. He also reset the ODAC standard of 4:58.17 set by former Roanoke College All-American, Carmen Graves, in 2013. Chappell-Dick's time is currently fourth in the nation. She's one of only 12 runners in D-III to run a sub-5:00 mile this season.

    McDonald, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., etched his name into both the Washington and Lee and ODAC record books after his performance at the UCS Invitational hosted at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. McDonald was the top collegiate finisher in the mile run and third overall, posting a time of 4:12.51. That topped McDonald's previous W&L record of 4:15.24, and also eclipsed the ODAC standard of 4:14.25 set by former Lynchburg College All-American Ricky Flynn in 2009. McDonald's time is tops in the ODAC this season and ninth in NCAA Division III.
  • Jaclyn Mohlmann, Shenandoah, Sr., Pentathlete

    Mohlmann, a senior from Annandale, Va., earns her second weekly honor after placing third overall and first among NCAA Division III competition in the pentathlon at the Navy Sweetheart Multi-Mix. She set new SU records in the high jump, long jump and pentathlon points, collecting 3,464 to the latter. That point total is fourth in NCAA Division III. She finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.82), high jump (1.64m; 5' 4.5") and 800-meter run (2:24.87). She was fourth in the long jump (5.18m; 17' 0.0") and 10th in the shot put (9.69m; 31' 9.5").
  • Ian McDonald, Washington and Lee, So., Mid-Distance/Distance

    McDonald, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., etched his name into the Generals' record-book by setting a new school-standard in the 800-meter run at the Susquehanna Invitational. McDonald finished fourth overall with a time of 1:5714. It marks the third-fastest time in the ODAC this season. He already owns ODAC top times in the mile, 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs.
  • Alex Martin, Guilford, Fr., Sprints/Jumps

    Martin, a freshman from Winston-Salem, N.C., put together a strong performance at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University. Martin's highlight performance came in the long jump when he finished third overall and first among NCAA Division III competitors with a leap of 6.76 meters (22' 2.5"), tying for the top spot in the ODAC. The jump also ranks 40th in the country. Martin sprinted in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, posted ODAC top-three times of 7.13 and 23.39 seconds.
  • Kim Alfaro, Lynchburg, Jr., Throws

    Alfaro, a junior from Toms River, N.J., put together a pair of impressive performances in the throws at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University. Alfaro won the shot put with a throw of 12.84 meters (42' 1.5"), the second-best throw in the ODAC this season only her own previous-best toss. She placed second overall and first among NCAA Division III competitors in the weight throw, heaving the apparatus 16.18 meters (53' 1.0"). She was second to a Division I competitor from Hampton University. Alfaros toss of 16.18 meters is 19th-best in NCAA Division III.
  • Jaclyn Mohlmann, Shenandoah, Sr., Pentathlete

    Mohlmann, a senior from Annandale, Va., starred at the Captains Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University. Mohlmann won the pentathlon, besting a 15-person field that included NCAA Division I and II athletes. She posted 3,283 total points, which ranks third in NCAA Division III so far this season. She won three of the five events competed, registering victories in the 60-meter hurdles (9.58), high jump (1.61m; 5' 3.25") and the 800-meter run (2:29.44). She placed third in the shot put (9.69m; 31' 9.5") and eighth in the long jump (4.91m; 16' 1.5"). Mohlmann also competed in the 400-meter dash, placing 16th overall and fourth among D-III competitors in 1:02.63. That mark set a new Shenandoah program record.

    McDonald, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., repeats as the ODAC athlete of the week after setting a new school record and achieving and ODAC seasonal top-time. Competing at the Hilton Garden Inviational, McDonald placed fifth overall and first among NCAA Divsion III student-athletes with a time of 4:15.24 in the mile run. The mark set a new W&L record as well as tops the ODAC top-times list by more than nine seconds. It is also ranked ninth in the country. He went on to run a leg of the Generals' 4x400-meter relay team, which finished 18th overall and tops among D-III squads in a time of 3:30.06.
  • Jillian Katterhagen, Washington and Lee, Sr., Sprints/Jumps

    Katterhagen, a senior from The Woodlands, Texas, competed in four events athe Denison Lid Lifter hosted by Denison University on Saturday. She posted the second-fastest time in in the 60-meter hurdles in the ODAC this season, posting a second-place time of 9.63-seconds. Her second top-five showing came in the pole vault as she cleared 3.05 meters (10' 0.0") to place third. Katterhagen then took to the track, finishing eighth in the 200-meter dash in 27.99-seconds, which ranks eighth in the ODAC. Her performance was capped by a 12th place showing in the 60-meter dash in 8.55-seconds.

    McDonald, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., competed in two events at the Denison Lid Lifter hosted by Denison University. He finished second both times, tying a Washington and Lee school-record in the process. He was the runner-up in the 800-meter run, matching the W&L standard with a time of 1:57.46. It also ranks as the fastest in the ODAC this season and 20th in NCAA Division III. He also ran the lead-leg of the Generals' distance medley relay team that placed second in 11:00.07. It marks the first DMR run in the ODAC this season and ranks 30th nationally.
  • Aleshia Washington, Lynchburg, Sr., Sprints/Jumps

    Washington, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., competed in a trio of events at the 2015 season-opening Liberty Open, taking part in two sprints and a jump. She finshed second overall behind a former NCAA Division I competitor in the long jump with an ODAC-best leap of 5.44 meters (17' 10.25"). That mark currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division III. Washington was also the top D-III finisher in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.07 seconds, just short of the 8.02 she ran before the flip of the calendar. She also added a ninth-place effort in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.88 seconds.
  • Ethan Fowlkes, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Jumps/Sprints

    Fowlkes, a senior from Quinton, Va., competed in three events at the 2015 schedule-opening Liberty Open over the weekend. He finished second overall and was the highest-ranked NCAA Division III competitor in the long jump, setting a new ODAC season top-mark of 6.74 meters (22' 1.50"), which ranks 16th in the country. He posted a second ODAC top-three finish in the triple jump, placing fourth among D-III competitors with a leap of 12.85 meters (42' 2.0"). He also competed in the 60-meter dash, chiming in 10th among D-III competitors at 7.51 seconds.
  • Evan Truman, Lynnchburg, So., Jumps/Sprints

    Truman, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., kicked off the 2014-15 indoor season by finishing as the top NCAA Division III competitor in a pair of events at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University. He was second overall in the long jump with a leap of 6.62 meters (21' 8.75"). He finished just behind a former student-athlete from Liberty University. He also added a 12th overall and first Division III finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.95 seconds, setting a new personal-best time.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, So., Jumps/Sprints

    Lee, a sophomore from Nashville, Tenn., competed in four individual events and one relay at the CNU Holiday Open, beginning the season as the top ODAC competitor in two disciplines. She tops the conference in both the long and triple jumps and is second in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. She was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the long jump, placing sixth overall at 5.26 meters (17' 3.25"). She was 10th overall and third D3 with the triple jump with a mark of 10.37 meters (34' 0.25"). She was again the top Divison III competitor in the 60-dash, posting a 20th overall place time of 8.08 seconds. In the 200-dash, Lee 29th overall in 27.40 seconds. She also ran a leg of the Generals' 4x400-meter relay team that posted a time of 4:14.74 to place ninth overall.
