2022 Men's Tennis Players of the Week

    Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., closed the regular season with a 3-1 week in top flight action. He was responsible for Bridgewater's point in an 8-1 team loss to Virginia Wesleyan. He defeated Mitchell Perry, 6-2, 6-0, at #1 singles. He and #1 doubles partner Matthew Leonard dropped a 6-8 decision to Perry and Felix Bevc. Secord and Matthew Gordon picked up an 8-1 win over Nicolas Alvarado and Alex Kulvivat in a 7-2 team triumph over Randolph. Secord then won 6-4, 6-1 over Alvarado in singles action.

    Kistler, a first-year from Hilton Head, S.C., put together a 6-0 week in helping Washington and Lee to three team victories including a pair of triumphs over regionally ranked teams. Kistler competed at #2 singles and joined Eli Hirshberg at #1 doubles in all three matches. The pair posted an 8-1 victory over Hardt Lesko and Carter Hylton in a 9-0 team win over Roanoke. Kistler defeated Lesko, 6-0, 6-0, in singles play. He won 6-2, 6-0 over Gianluca Beaujon in the regionally 11th-ranked Generals 9-0 team win over Salisbury, which is ranked 12th in the Atlantic South. Kistler and Hirshberg won 8-4 over Beaujon and Brad Pappalardo in doubles play. The match was much tighter against Isaac Rockower and Adrian Charchalis from regionally 20th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, but the W&L pair pulled out an 8-7 (7) win towards a 7-2 team triumph over the Diplomats. Kistler added a 6-1, 6-4 singles win over Justin Pace. For the season, Kistler is 12-8 in singles matches and 10-9 in doubles play.
  • Mitchell Perry, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Perry, a senior from Johns Creek, Ga., helped Virginia Wesleyan to a 2-1 week that featured a pair of key ODAC victories to drive the Marlins records to 9-7 overall and 5-1 in league play. Perry went 5-1 overall between singles and double action, the latter all with partner Felix Bevc. The pair posted an 8-5 win over Daniel Blonquist and Tanner Bassett at #1 doubles against regionally 18th-ranked Southern Virginia. Perry dropped at 6-1, 6-2 decision to Marcos Dias at #1 singles in the Marlins 6-3 team setback to the Knights. Perry rebounded with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tyler Brice at #2 singles in VWU's 8-1 team triumph over Hampden-Sydney. Perry and Bevc topped Barrett Foster and Matt Kendrick, 8-3, at #1 doubles. The duo posted a second 8-3 from the top flight, this time against Evan Wong and Drake Schreiber as part of a 7-2 team win over Guilford. Perry defeated Jay Montague, 6-3, 6-2, at #1 singles.

    Perle-Jones, a graduate student from Eugene, Ore., went 4-0 last week in help Shenandoah to a 1-1 showing against ODAC competition. Perle-Jones joined Keith Orr for an 8-0 win over Hardt Lesko and Carter Hylton at #1 doubles in the Hornets narrow 5-4 team loss to Roanoke. Perle Jones added a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles over Lesko. He again contributed two points to the Hornets team score, this time helping SU to a 7-1 win over Ferrum. He and Orr partnered for an 8-3 win over Patrick Marsh and Jacob Glass at #1 doubles. Perle-Jones then won 6-1, 6-1 over Marsh at #2 singles.
  • Levi Vigdorchik, Lynchburg, Jr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles

    Vigdorchik, a junior from San Francisco, Calif., went 5-1 combined in top flight singles and doubles matches in three ODAC outings for Lynchburg last week. Vigdorchik and Colton Mullins teamed up for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles over Alex Kulvivat and Nicolas Alvarado in the Hornets 7-2 team win over Randolph. Vigdorchik defeated Alvarado, 6-1, 6-1, at #1 singles. In a 6-3 team setback to Guilford, Vigdorcik and Mullins topped Drake Schreiber and Evan Wong, 8-2, at #1 doubles. Vigdorchik won the first set 6-0 and was up 2-0 in the second on Schreiber at #1 singles before the Schreiber was forced to retire. Vigdorchik and Mullins suffered their only loss of the week at #1 doubles via an 8-5 decision from Felix Bevc and Mitchell Perry in an 8-1 team loss to Virginia Wesleyan. Vigdorchik rebounded for a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8) win at #1 singles over Bevc, the 2021 ODAC Rookie of the Year.
  • Evan Erb, Washington and Lee, Fy., #1 Singles, #2 Doubles

    Erb, a first-year from St. Louis, Mo., led Washington and Lee to pair of ODAC victories last week to improve the Generals' season marks to 4-8 overall and 4-0 in ODAC play. Erb and Evan Brady teamed up for an 8-0 win over Gabe Elder and Noah Hughes at #2 doubles in a 9-0 team win over Bridgewater. Erb defeated Elder in straight sets at #1 singles. He then posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #1 singles over Felix Bevc in an 8-1 team win over Virginia Wesleyan. Erb and Brady posted an 8-5 win over Camden Perry and Timothy Tep at #2 doubles. Erb is now 4-3 overall in singles action and 5-1 in doubles play.

    Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after leading Bridgewater to a big conference win over Guilford. Secord, a two-time ODAC Player of the Year, joined Matthew Leonard for an 8-3 victory over Drake Schreiber and Evan Wong in top-flight doubles play. Secord went on to post a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Schreiber at #1 singles to help Bridgewater scratch out a 5-4 win over the ODAC preseason third-ranked Quakers.

    Alvarado, a junior from Santiago, Chile, helped the WildCats to a 1-1 week against ODAC foes by going 4-0 in top-flight singles and doubles matches. In a 5-2 team win over Ferrum, Alvarado teamed with Alex Kulvivat to defeat Patrick Marsh and Jacob Glass, 8-3, at #1 doubles. Alvarado then won 6-0, 6-0 over Viktor Johansen at #1 singles. In a 7-2 team setback to Guilford, Alvarado and Kulvivat again won at #1 doubles, 8-2, over Drake Schrieber and Evan Wong. Alvarado then topped Schrieber 6-1, 7-6 (12-10) at #1 doubles.

    Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., helped Bridgewater to a 2-1 week by going 4-2 in top-of-the-ladder singles and doubles action. Secord and Bridgewater suffered their only losses of the week against Division II foe Tiffin University. Secord fell to Ruben Fonga, 6-0, 7-6 in singles play and joined Matthew Leonard in a 6-3 setback to Fonga and Cyrille Colomb in doubles action. The Eagles rebounded with a pair of 9-0 victories over St. Vincent College and Brevard College. Secord and Leonard earned an 8-1 win over SVC duo Jon Oskin and David Lynn. Secord then trumped Lynn, 6-2, 6-0 in singles play. BC's tandem was again in action against Brevard, posting an 8-0 triumph over James Srsich and Devin Horton. Secord won 6-3, 6-1 over Ethan McGee in singles play.

    Bevc, a sophomore from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, helped Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-1 week with three wins including a pair at top-flight singles. In a 7-2 team win over Goucher, Bevc, last year's ODAC Rookie of the Year, posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Brian Kane. He then joined Mitchell Perry for an 8-6 victory over Kane and Omosesan Adebamgbe at #1 doubles. In a 7-2 team loss to likely nationally-ranked Salisbury University, Bevc earned a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Brad Papalardo at #1 singles. He and Mitchel came up just short for another point with an 8-7 loss to Pappalardo and Gianluca Beaujon at #1 doubles.

    Secord, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., helped Bridgewater open the spring season with a 9-0 victory at Ferrum. The two-time ODAC Player of the Year joined Matthew Leonard in posting an 8-1 win over Patrick Marsh and Jacob Glass at #1 doubles. Secord then topped Marsh, 6-0, 6-0, to grab a second point in top-flight singles play.
