Win Sets Up Rematch with Bridgewater
SALISBURY, Md. --- The Lynchburg College
softball team bounced back to take a 1-0 victory over Christopher
Newport University in the Salisbury Regional of the NCAA
Tournament.
In what proved to be a pitchers duel, one big hit changed the
entire scope of the game. Each team could only muster one hit, but
Rachel Gallagher's (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) solo homerun in the top
of the fifth inning gave the Hornets the victory. Gallagher has now
hit five homeruns in the last six games.
Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) won her 17th game
of the season as she allowed just four hits. Audra Della Rosa
(Rumford, RI/St. Mary's Academy Bay View), Katie Bruce (Lanexa,
VA/Lafayette), and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) each
added one hit. Kristen Rowe took the mound for Christopher Newport
(36-8) and earned only her third loss of the season and her second
loss to Lynchburg this spring. Rowe allowed just four hits and
walked just one batter. The CNU batters failed to provide any
support for Rowe as they left seven runners on base.
Lynchburg (38-7-1) has a rematch with Bridgewater College tomorrow
at 10 a.m. The winner goes on to face Emory University, who has yet
to lose in the tournament, and the loser concludes their
season.
