Bruce, a senior from Lanexa, Va., earned two victories this weekend at the Beach Blast Tournament hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Bruce worked 6.2 innings Friday in a 6-5 win against Rowan, allowing just one run with five strikeouts while scattering two hits and one walk. Bruce registered a complete-game 4-0 shutout victory against Stevenson University in the opener on Saturday, allowing just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Softball Pitcher Honor Roll
Molly Smith, Eastern Mennonite, Freshman
Smith picked up both of EMU’s wins over the
weekend, as she allowed just one run in a pair of complete games.
Friday against Virginia Intermont, she shut down the Cobras on five
hits while allowing just the one run. Saturday she held Old
Westbury in place, allowing just one hit and three total
baserunners in the five-inning win. Smith also struck out
four in that win. For the week, Smith allowed six hits and
one run over 12.0 innings for a ERA of 0.58. The wins were
her first in a Lady Royals’ uniform as she is now 2-2 on the
season.
Ashley Boteler, Guilford, Freshman
Boteler tossed a complete-game, five-inning shutout in
Guilford’s 8-0 win at North Carolina Wesleyan… allowed
just two hits and fanned a career-high six… did not walk a
batter.
Kristen Dize, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore
Dize pitched five shutout innings against Meredith
in the Yellow Jackets second Beach Blast Tournament game. The
sophomore righty came back on Saturday to pick up a complete game
win, allowing no earned runs and striking out three.
Gretchen Wolfe, Roanoke, Senior
Wolfe went 2-1 over the weekend, posting wins over
Shenandoah and Rowan. She went the distance against the
Hornets, fanning six in the seven innings of work.
