Lewis, a junior from Glen Allen, Va., won a pair of games and only gave up one run in 12 innings of work last week, her first two starts of the season. In a five-inning win over Frostburg State, Lewis gave up just two hits and fanned a pair to earn the win. Against Dickinson, she went the distance and gave up just one run while scattering 11 hits in seven innings in the circle. She struck out five and did not walk a batter for the second straight contest.
Softball Pitcher Honor Roll
Heather Jenkins, Bridgewater, Junior
Jenkins tossed a complete game in her first outing
of the season as the Eagles dropped Hood by a 9-1 score in five
innings. Jenkins gave up just one run on a solo homer and struck
out six in the win, while surrendering just four hits.
Lisa Lee, Eastern Mennonite, Senior
Lee shut out a solid Wilson team in EMU’s 2012 opener
last Friday. Lee struck out eight in the seven-inning
shutout, scattering three hits.
Kristen Hutchinson, Randolph, Sophomore
Hutchinson pitched in two games this week, earning a victory Sunday
afternoon against Virginia Intermont. She tossed two innings in
relief Saturday against Southern Virginia, allowing only one hit
and fanning four hitters. Sunday against the Cobras of Virginia
Intermont, she started and went five scoreless innings, scattering
three hits. She has now not allowed a run in 12 innings, with her
only run allowed of the season coming on a solo homer in the first
inning of the year.
Kelly Higbie, Roanoke, Freshman
Higbie went 4-2 over the weekend in her first collegiate
appearances. She pitched six complete games which included
one shutout and went all 41 innings on the mound. She totaled
17 strikeouts and posted an ERA of 2.41, giving up 11 earned runs
(20 total).
