Jenkins, a junior from Locust Grove, Va., helped Bridgewater to a 7-1 week in Florida as she won four games, including victories over tenth-ranked Coast Guard and seventh-ranked Cortland State. Jenkins opened the week with a four-hit shutout of Thomas More before earning the win in relief in a 9-7 victory over Catholic. On Wednesday, Jenkins threw a 78-pitch gem in the Eagles’ shutout win over Coast Guard, with the junior hurler allowing just one hit. On Thursday, Jenkins was solid as she pitched a complete game in Bridgewater’s 7-3 win over Cortland State. Jenkins wrapped up the week with a 3-2 loss in extra innings to Trine in which she gave up just five hits and two earned runs in 7.2 innings of work. On the week, Jenkins struck out 21 batters and allowed just four earned runs in 30.2 innings. Her 0.98 ERA is tied for second-best in the ODAC.
Softball Pitcher Honor Roll
Lisa Lee, Eastern Mennonite, Senior
Lee was strong from the circle over the weekend, picking up a
pair of complete game wins. In her two games, she pitched
12.0 innings, allowing just one run for an ERA of 0.58. In
Sunday’s clash with Ferrum, Lee allowed just four hits and
one run, as the Lady Royals handed the Panthers just their second
loss of the season, 2-1. She also had a shutout of Rochester
on Saturday. Lee is 4-0 this season in four starts, striking
out 16 with an ERA of 0.81.
Shelby Bowser, Guilford, Senior
Bowser went 2-0 in three appearances during the Quakers’ 4-2
week… posted a 1.91 earned run average with eight strikeouts
in 11 innings… held opponents to a .267 batting
average… yielded a run on three hits and a walk in two
innings of relief against Greensboro… picked up her first
win of the year with four innings of relief against Johnson
State… fanned two and did not walk a batter…. Struck
out a season-high six in five innings of Guilford’s 10-2 win
over Mary Baldwin… yielded one earned run in that time.
Jessica Sanabria, Randolph, Freshman
made the most of her two appearances, allowing only two hits over
seven innings of work, earning two wins. In her start against
Castleton State, she went three innings, allowing no runs while
fanning four hitters. The next day, she scattered two hits over
four innings, striking out five batters in her second victory of
the week. On the season, she is 4-0 with a 2.21 ERA and batters are
hitting just .206 against her.
Kristen Dize, Randolph-Macon, Junior
Dize earned two victories, both complete game shutouts, striking
out eight, while walking only one and surrendering just seven
hits.
Kelly Higbie, Roanoke, Freshman
Higbie helped Roanoke to a 6-0 week as she won all six games,
going the distance in each contest. She gave up only five
total runs as the Maroons outscored their opponents 62-5 in winning
three games in five innings, two in six and one in seven innings.
Higbie fired all 34 frames, surrendering 16 hits and two
earned runs while fanning 33 and walking 10. Two of her
victories were shutouts in RC's 17-0 win over Grace and 6-0 triumph
over Hunter.
Kristina Karagiorgis, Virginia Wesleyan,
Freshman
Karagiorgis earned the win in three of Virginia Wesleyan's four
games last week, helping the Marlins to a 4-0 showing. She
worked the first game against Sweet Briar in which she no-hit the
Vixens in a 17-0 win. She had 12 punchouts. VWC went on
to win game 2, 23-0. Karagiorgis came back on Sunday and
threw in 10-0 and 9-1 wins over Emory & Henry. She
allowed just one hit and one run while striking out 10 in seven
combined innings of work. Karagiorgis was also solid at the
dish as she went 7-for-11 with a pair of homers and 11 runs batted
in during the week.
