Lewis, a senior from Glen Allen, Va., went 3-0 on the week with one and nearly a second shutout. She went the distance and then some in all three starts, beginning with a 3-1 triumph over Southern Virginia to begin the week. She gave up one unearned run on seven hits in a full seven innings. She followed that with a five-hit shutout of Shenandoah in a 4-0 Randolph-Macon win. She fanned four and didn't walk a batter in that contest. Her final appearance went extra innings as she worked all nine innings for R-MC's 5-3 win over Roanoke. She gave up three runs on seven hits, walking a pair and fanning two. For the season, Lewis is 19-3, with the 19 wins marking an ODAC-best. She is fourth with a 1.40 earned run average and second with 134.2 innings pitched. In her 20 starts, she has completed 19, tops in the ODAC.
Softball Pitching Honor Roll
Maggie Shaffer, Guilford - (Fr, P -
Horsham, Pa., 12)
Shaffer went 1-1 in three appearances last week, earning the win
in a 4-1 GC triumph over Bridgewater. In that game, she
surrendered one run on four hits with six strikeouts in a complete
game effort. She also had an RBI double at the dish.
For the week, she gave up nine runs on 19 hits in 19 innings of
work. She struck out 16 batters along the way.
Kelly Higbie, Roanoke -(So, P - Midlothian, VA,
23)
Higbie appeared in seven of RC's eight games played, working 37.0
innings and posting a 4-1 record with a 1.70 ERA. She gave up
11 runs (nine earned) on 31 hits with 15 punchouts (17
walks). She shutout both Ferrum (1-0) and Bridgewater (1-0),
giving up a combined three hits (seven walks) in those
contests. She also kept R-MC off the board at the end of the
week, giving up just three hits along the way. She also
posted a win in game one against Ferrum, scattering 11 hits and
five runs (four earned) in 6.1 innings of work.
Stephanie Cameron, Shenandoah - (Jr, P - Ocala, Fla.,
14)
Cameron went 1-1 in her two starts, working 10.1 total innings over
a 4-0 loss to Roanoke and a 5-1 win over Guilford. Against
the Quakers, she gave up one run on four hits while fanning 11 in
6.1 innings in the circle.
Mackenzie Creech, Va. Wesleyan - (Jr, Pitcher -
Hillsborough, N.C., 4)
Creech increased her season win total to 18 with three wins last
week, including both triumphs in a sweep of Roanoke. She
started game one of that series, shutting out the Maroons while
fanning 10 and only allowing three hits. She followed with
five innings of relief in game two, giving up one unearned run on
four hits. Creech opened the week with a five-inning 11-3 win
over E&H. She struck out six Wasps in that contest.
Her 18 wins are second in the ODAC and tied a career-high (2011),
ranking seventh in VWC history. She now has 106 strikeouts,
her second time over the 100-K plateau in three years. That
mark is 10th in school history.
