Cassetty Howerin, Virginia Wesleyan, So., First Base

Howerin, a sophomore from Dover, Del., continues her assault on the softball in the early season, going 6-for-11 and registering a 1.182 slugging percentage as Virginia Wesleyan swept the Beach Blast.  Howerin, the reigning NFCA National Player of the Week, doubled and homer twice amongst her six hits, scoring six run and driving in nine more.  She also walked three times and stole a base.  She was 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and seven RBI in a 13-0 whitewashing of Buffalo St.  She added a double with three walks and two runs scored in a 6-3 trouncing of Rutgers-Camden.  She drove in a pair and registered her third walk in a 9-0 victory over Keene St.  For the season, Howerin is fourth in the ODAC with a .538 batting average and third with a .649 on-base percentage.  She leads the conference in homers (5), RBI (20), walks (9) and slugging (1.192).  Her 13 runs rank second.

Softball Player Honor Roll

Brianna Cox, Bridgewater (Sr. - DP)
Cox started the season scorching from the dish, going 7-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI.  She was 5-for-5 with a double and three RBI in a 12-3 win over Beloit.

Alexa Sheets, Eastern Mennonite (Fr. - IF)
Sheets had two hits in either half of the Royals split at Greensboro.  She homered and drove in two runs in a 5-4 game one win.

Taylor Boyd, Guilford (Jr. - IF)
Boyd went 6-for-12 i nthe Quakers 3-1 week.  She scored three runs and drove in two more.  She had two hits in each of GC's wins -- 8-0 and 11-0 over Mary Baldwin, and 5-4 over Averett.

Lauren Smith, Lynchburg (Jr. - 1B/OF)
Smith went 4-for-6 in the Hornets split at Averett.  She collected two hits in both contests, driving in a run in a 6-3 win in game two.

Brandi Mulvena, Randolph-Macon (So. - SS)
Mulvena went 8-for-18 with a pair of multi-hit games in the Yellow Jackets 3-3 week.  She had went 3-for-3 and drove in a run in a loss (15-5) to CNU.  She had two hits, a walk and three stolen bases in a 2-0 victory over Keene St.  She stole four bases and walked three times on the week.

Taylor Carter, Roanoke (So. - OF)
Carter went 7-for-14 with two RBI, three runs scored, and six stolen bases.  She had two steals and two hits in a 5-4 setback to Frostburg St., and two steals with three hits in a 2-1 triumph over Salem.
