Hull, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Va., picked up right where she left last season as the reigning national player of the year helped Virginia Wesleyan to a season-opening sweep of Meredith. In game one. Hull went the distance with seven full frames in the circle. She gave up one run on one hit with one walk and 17 strikeouts. She struck out the side in the first, fifth, and seventh innings on the way to win #1 for the nationally top ranked and defending national champion Marlins.

Softball Pitcher of the Week Honor Roll

Tiffany Cole, E&H: twirled a gem in her first outing of the season, going the distance in a 8-0 shutout at Salem College. Only won runner reach second base as she gave up two hits and struck out one without walking a batter. She recorded 13 ground ball outs and had four 1-2-3 innings.

Courtney Lackey, GC: went 6.2 innings to earn a 5-4 victory at William Peace. Gave up four runs on 10 hits with two walks. Helped herself with a two-run single in the top of the seventh to plate the Quakers' fourth and fifth runs.

Conner English, LC: worked 4.0 frames to get an 11-1 win over Methodist. She gave up one run on three hits. She fanned eight and did not walk a batter.

Teresa Wagner, RC: led RC to a 4-1 win at Greensboro with six strong innings. She surrendered one unearned tally on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
