Kendall Varner, Emory & Henry, Fr., First Base/Outfielder

Varner, a freshman from Bassett, Va., helped the Wasps to a 7-0 showing this past week (8-0 for the tournament overall) at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Varner went 12-for-24 on the way to a .500/.500/.917 slash line. Seven of her 12 knocks went for extra bases, helping her to 13 runs driven in and six runs scored. She drove in at least one run in each contest. Varner went 3-for-4 each in wins over St. Joseph (Conn.)(11-1) and Lycoming (6-1), gapping three doubles and legging out a triple combined. She drove in seven runs and scored twice in those outings. She plated two more runs in a 6-1 victory over St. Scholastica. She had two more triples on the week, with one coming in a 10-2 triumph over Lesley and the other in a 10-0 shutout of Wesley. For the season, Varner is hitting .435 with six doubles, three triples, and 18 runs driven in. Her .826 slugging percentage ranks fifth in the ODAC.

Softball Player of the Week Honor Roll

Mikalia Guard, BC: went 12-for-12 with three doubles, a homer, 12 RBI and four runs scored in a 5-1 week for the Eagles. Had three hits with two doubles and two RBI in an 8-2 win over Mary Washington. Had four RBI each in a 10-2 win over Mary Baldwin and a 9-3 victory over Pitt-Bradford.

Tiffani Shaheen, EMU: went 5-for-7 in a split at Mary Washington. Doubled and drove in a run in a 5-1 win in game two. Stole two bases with three hits in game one (L, 1-0).

Makayla Crawford, GC: went 3-for-6 with a homer and two RBI in a split vs. N.C. Wesleyan. Had two hits in a 2-1 win in game two. Homered in game one (L, 9-2).

Sarah Commons, LC: went 9-for-13 with three runs scored and a stolen base in the Hornets 3-1 week. Went 5-for-7 in a sweep of Greensboro (4-1, 4-1). Collected four hits in a split at Salem (14-2, 0-3).

Kaitlyn Deeter, R-MC: went 6-for-14 with a homer, six RBI, five runs scored, and five stolen bases in 6-0 week for 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon. Homered and drove in three runs in a 13-0 triumph over Gettysburg in game two of their series. Stole two bases and drove in two runs in an 8-1 win in game one over Gettysburg.

Kate Priester, RC: went 9-for-18 with two doubles, a triple, five runs scored, three RBI, and a stolen base. Had two hits and drove in two runs in an 8-0 victory over Averett. Went 4-for-7 in a sweep of Pitt-Bradford (3-2, 9-1).

Amy Large, VWU: went 4-for-8 with a homer, five RBI, four runs scored, and four walks in VWU's 4-0 week. Drove in three runs with a homer in a 9-1 win over Emory.
