HU's Greene Collects Rookie Honors, VWC's Davis Tabbed Scholar-Athlete
SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College senior
center Molly Ariail joined a select group in ODAC women's
basketball history on Wednesday evening as she was voted the ODAC
Player of the Year for the third-straight season. Fellow
Yellow Jacket Megan Silva '06 also won the league's top player
award three times (2004-06).
Roanoke College head coach, Susan Dunagan, was named the ODAC Coach
of the Year for the second-consecutive season, while Hollins
University freshman guard Jasmine Greene picked up the first-ever
ODAC Rookie of the Year honor for a Hollins women's basketball
student-athlete. Virginia Wesleyan College senior forward
Maggie Davis was tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance
Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Ariail, recipient of the 2007 ODAC Rookie of the Year award, was
selected to the All-ODAC First Team each of the past three seasons
following a second team honor in her freshman campaign.
Ariail currently leads the league in scoring and rebounding,
dropping in 19.4 points per game and grabbing 11.4 boards per
contest. She was a winner of three ODAC Player of the
Week awards this season, and has posted an ODAC-best 14
double-doubles. For her career, the York, Pa., native
registered 1,825 points, good enough for a 16.9 points per game
average. She also became the first Yellow Jacket for cross
the 1,000-rebound mark in the final weekend of the season.
She enters the tournament with 1,002 boards, just outside of the
ODAC's all-time top-five.
Dunagan, in her 29th year of coaching the Roanoke
College women's basketball program, picked up her eighth conference
top coaching award. Dunagan has led her team to the top of
the conference for the second-straight year and the Maroons are
currently riding a 14-game win streak, which is the longest since
1996-97. Including this season, Dunagan-coached teams have
won 20 or more games 16 times. She has won 560 career games
to-date, and leads the Maroons in search of a conference-best
14th ODAC title in the 2010 tournament.
Greene has had an impressive debut season at Hollins. She
currently ranks second in the league in points per game,
registering 19.2 points per contest and she leads the conference
with 3.20 steals per game. Greene has scored double-figures
in 21 of 25 games played this season, surpassing 20 points 14
different times. Additionally, Greene dropped in a
career-high 34 points against Guilford, tying Virginia Wesleyan
College's Tonia Jones for the ODAC's highest single-game output in
2010.
Davis' recognition as the league's top scholar-athlete marks the
first-ever for a Marlin women's basketball student-athlete.
In the classroom, Davis sports a 3.88 grade point average, while
majoring in mathematics. She has been a member of the
Virginia Wesleyan Dean's List each semester, as well as a member of
the ODAC's Academic Honor Roll. This year, Davis has already
been named a 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team
Academic All-District honoree. On the court, Davis has
notched career highs in points (22) and rebounds (18). She is
averaging 10.8 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per contest and is
currently third in the league in blocked shots with 39. Over
her three seasons, Davis has compiled 661points, grabbed 575
rebounds and blocked 88 shots in 95 games played.
