Williams, a sophomore from Garysburg, N.C., was nothing short of spectacular in three games to open the season as she averaged 26.7 points, 21.7 rebounds and 4.3 blocked shots in a 2-1 showing for Randolph-Macon. Williams dropped a career-high 34 points on 11-of-18 shooting and 12-of-16 from the line in a 78-73 upset of 14th-ranked Marymount (Va.). She added 22 rebounds with nine via the offensive glass, and also blocked six shots. In a 65-62 setback to Juniata, Williams registered 21 points despite an off shooting day (8-of-26). She grabbed 25 rebounds (9 offensive) and blocked three shots. She capped her R-MC Tip-Off Classic MOP performance with 25 points and 18 boards (8 offensive) and four blocked shots.

Women's Basketball Weekly Notes

Bridgewater center Kaitlyn Lehan averaged 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds with eight blocked shots in a 1-2 start for new head coach Sarah Mathews. She had 21 points and 10 boards in a win at Methodist (77-48). She had four blocks in a loss at Christopher Newport (63-36) and then tied a program-record with 20 rebounds, 10 points, and four blocked shots in a loss to Juniata (67-55).

Eastern Mennonite went 2-1 to start the season with wins over Lancaster Bible (72-55) and Hilbert (65-60) before falling to PSU-Altoona (64-61). Jess Washington averaged 13.3 points and 4.7 rebounds, including 19 points against PSU-Altoona. She had 11 points and nine rebounds against Hilbert.

Emory & Henry went 1-1 with a win over Belhaven (67-49) and a loss to Texas-Dallas (68-45). Tessa Johnston went for 18 points in the latter game and dropped in 11 points with three assists in the Wasps' win.

Guilford rebounded from a loss to Hardin-Simmons (56-49) with a 39-point triumph over La Roche (80-41). Lauren Ramsey registered 18 points, six boards, and three assists in the Quakers win. She had 11 points and seven board with four assists and three steals against HSU.

Hollins opened up the new season with a pair of road losses to Salem (87-46) and Pfeiffer (72-33).

Lynchburg forward Caroline Naumann was named to the Johns Hopkins Tournament all-tournament team after averaging 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games in Baltimore. LC went 2-1 on the week overall, defeating Averett (60-42) and Albright (58-56) with a loss to JHU (62-60) in between. Naumann went for 18 points and eight boards with three steals against the Blue Jays. She had 14 points and 11 boards against AU and 17 points with 14 rebounds against Albright.

Randolph opened the season 2-1 surrounding a loss to Greensboro (66-54) with wins over Meredith (72-55) and N.C. Wesleyan (69-57). Alexis Calloway had two double-doubles with 12 points and 13 boards against Meredith and 10 points and 11 boards against NCWC.

Roanoke dropped three contests to open the season with losses at Ferrum (72-56) and two Piedmonth (76-64) and Birmingham-Southern (62-54) in the Jean Beamer Classic. Kristina Harrell was named to the All-Classic Team after averaging 10 points, five boards, three steals, and 2.5 assists over the two game.

Shenandoah went 1-1 to open the season with a win at Goucher (72-39) and a loss at Averett (79-71). Jordan Sandrol set a career high in scoring twice, going for 18 points and eight boards against Goucher before exploding for 29 points and eight rebounds with three blocked shots against AU. She shot 65.2-percent (15-of-23) for the week.

Virginia Wesleyan guard Jayla Harris averaged 18.3 points and buried nine three-pointers in a 1-2 week. She had 21 points in a loss to Salisbury (61-48), 18 markers in a win at #24 Mary Washington (58-53) to open the Hyatt Place Tip-Off Tournament, and finished with 16 points in a loss to Gettysburg (55-52). Just 33 points from 1,000 for her career, Harris earned all-tournament team honors.

Washington and Lee started 3-0 behind a MOP performance from Emily Perszyk at the Jean Beamer Classic. The Generals defeated 24th-ranked Mary Washington (60-55) to start the season, with Perszyk dropping in 28 points on 13-of-15 from the stripe. She went for 26 points in a win over Birmingham-Southern (76-65), notching her 1,000 point along the way. She finished with 17 points in a win over Piedmont (70-65).
