2015 Volleyball Players of the Week

  • Jen Garrett, Lynchburg, Sr., Outside Hitter

    Garrett, a senior from Forest, Va., exploded for 41 kills over seven sets in the final two conference matches of the season, helping Lynchburg secure the third seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament by averaging 5.86 kills per set and hitting .390 in the two victories. In a 3-1 win at Guilford, Garrett matched a personal season-high with 25 kills on a .302 attack percentage. She added a block assist and an ace to give her 26.5 points for the match. She also contributed defensively with season-high 27 digs. Garrett continued her strong attacking with 16 kills against just two errors towards a .583 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at Virginia Wesleyan. She chipped in an ace and two blocks for 18.5 total points scored, while also registering 14 digs. For the season, Garrett leads the ODAC in kills (405), kills per set (4.05), total points earned (437.0) and points per set (4.4). She is second in total attacks (1030) and seventh with a .269 attack percentage.
  • Mackenzie Shand, Washington and Lee, Sr., Middle Blocker

    Shand, a senior from Saline, Mich., posted a solid week on both sides of the ball in Washington and Lee's 2-1 showing, becoming the program's all-time leader in career blocks in the process. In a 3-0 victory on the road at Emory & Henry, Shand hit .500 with eight kills, an assist and four blocks. She chipped in three more total blocks with four kills in a 3-0 setback to nationally 20th-ranked Christopher Newport. Shand capped her week with seven kills and a .778 attack percentage to go with four assists and six more rejections to run her weekly total to 13 in a 3-0 win over Penn State-Harrisburg. She now has 418 blocks in her career, which ranks eighth all-time in ODAC history. For the season, Shand leads the ODAC in attack percentage (.385), total blocks (121), block assists (91) and blocks per set (1.36). Her 30 solo blocks sit second.
  • Rebecca McGilvery, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Outside Hitter

    McGilvery, a junior from Warrenton, Ohio, helped the Yellow Jackets to three ODAC wins last week, including a 3-1 triumph over Washington and Lee to catapult Randolph-Macon to the top of the conference standings with a 9-0 league mark. McGilvery registered a match-best 19 points in the win over the Generals. She collected 18 kills and 11 digs to go with three assists and an ace. She bettered herself by one in a 3-0 win over Bridgewater, hitting .378 with 19 kills and an ace to account for 20 total points. She added eight digs to her stat line. Randolph-Macon also topped Eastern Mennonite, 3-0, with McGilvery chipping in four digs and an ace in a set of work. For the season, McGilvery has 158 kills for a 2.26 per set average.
  • Tiffany Barrett, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Outside Hitter
    October 10, 2016
    Barrett, a senior from Stafford, Va., racked up 51 kills and hit .297 with seven aces and 57 digs to help the Marlins to a 3-1 week. Following a seven kills, 18 dig, two ace showing in a 3-2 setback to Randolph-Macon, Barrett registered 22 kills and hit .488 with 16 digs and four aces in a 3-2 win over Averett. She followed that with 12 kills, a .367 attack percentage, and 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Roanoke. Barrett capped her week with a third straight .300 plus hitting match with 10 kills and 12 digs in a 3-0 victory over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). For the season, Barrett sits second in the ODAC with 260 total kills and ninth at 2.95 kills per set. Her 34 aces rank third in the conference, while her 284 digs are fifth.
  • Erin Quinn, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Setter

    Quinn, a junior from Morrisville, N.C., kept the Randolph-Macon offense humming as the Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of wins last week. Quinn averaged 10.63 assists over the two matches, dishing out 85 helpers to go with 17 digs overall. In a 3-0 victory at Shenandoah, she handed out an even 30 assists to go with two kills, nine digs and an ace. She followed that with 55 assists for an 11.0 per set average in a 3-2 victory over St. Mary's (Md.). She chipped in two more kills and eight digs. For the season, Quinn leads the ODAC with a 10.63 assists per set average and 606 total assists. Both of those numbers are eighth and 26th, respectively, in NCAA Division III.
  • Mariah Clark, Randolph-Macon, So., Outside Hitter

    Clark, a sophomore from Stuarts Draft, Va., led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-1 week that included a 3-1 showing at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament. Clark blistered her way to 90 kills on a .309 attack percentage to go with 55 digs and 12 total blocks. She accounted for 97 total points and 4.6 points per set as she averaged 4.29 kills per set. Clark registered double figure winners in all six matches, never collecting fewer than 12. She topped out at 18 kills with 13 digs in a 3-2 win over John Carroll (Ohio). She had 16 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 loss to host, Carnegie Mellon, and finished the tournament with 15 kills, seven digs, and four blocks in a 3-0 win over Bethany (W.Va.). R-MC defeated Roanoke, 3-0, earlier in the week, with Clark smacking 15 kills to go with six digs and two blocks. She had 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Mount Union and added 12 in a 3-0 win at N.C. Wesleyan. For the season, Clark is third in the ODAC in both total kills (177) and average kills (3.59/s).
  • Meg Guignon, Washington and Lee, So., Outside Hitter

    Guignon, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., picks up her second straight weekly award after leading Washington and Lee to a 4-0 week that included the Generals' first two wins over ODAC opponents. Guignon hammered out 65 kills and averaged 4.64 kills over 16 sets while hitting .305 for the week. She collected no fewer than 12 kills in a match, peaking with 22 kills and a .373 hitting percentage to with 15 digs in a 3-1 win at Bridgewater. She had 16 kills and nine digs in a 3-1 win at Averett, and added 15 kills and six digs in a 3-0 triumph over Meredith. She had 12 winners and eight digs in a 3-0 victory at Eastern Mennonite. For the season, Guignon is third in the ODAC with 137 kills and fifth at 3.26 kills per set.
  • Meg Guignon, Washington and Lee, So., Outside Hitter

    Guignon, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., helped lead Washington and Lee to four victories in four matches at the W&L Invitational. Guignon earned MVP honors after collecting 47 kills to go wtih 22 digs and four total blocks. She had eight kills in a 3-1 win over Centre before going for double figures in the final three matches of the tournament. She started with 13 winners while hitting .333 in a 3-0 win over Averett. She had 14 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia, and capped her tournament with 12 kills, six digs and two blocks in a 3-0 win over St. Mary's (Md.). For the season, Guignon has notched 72 kills to go with 57 digs in helping Washington and Lee to a 7-1 start.
  • Jen Garrett, Lynchburg, Sr., Outside Hitter

    Garrett, a senior from Forest, Va., helped the Hornets open the season with five victories in their first five matches. That included a 4-0 showing at the EMU Invitational in which Garrett earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She hammered 80 kills over the five matches, including 66 at the tournament. She hit .267 for the week and added 60 digs and nine total blocks. Garrett had no fewer than nine kills in a match, registering a weekly-best 25 kills and a .400 attack percentage with 13 digs in a 3-1 win over Salem. She had 17 kills, 17 digs and three blocks in a 3-1 win over Catholic, and followed that with 15 and 14 winners in 3-1 and 3-0 victories over Hood and Ferrum, respectively. Garrett's 80 kills currently lead all ODAC players in the young season.
