ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: February 22, 2016

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Justin Petock, Bridgewater, Sr., Pitcher
Petock, a senior from Woodbridge, Va., appeared twice in a pair of Eagles victories last week. In a 5-1 victory at Averett, Petock worked two shutout innings without allowing a baserunner. He fanned two in Bridgewater's season-opener. Petock got the start in BC's 13-2 win over Juniata, tossing five shutout innings. He gave up two hits and walked one while striking out seven.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Kenner Berry, Bridgewater, Jr., Outfielder
Berry, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va., registered four multi-hit games to help lead the Eagles to four wins to open their 2016 schedule. Berry had two three-hit games and a pair of two-hit outings, going 10-for-17 overall with six extra-base hits, 11 runs batted in, seven runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. He was 3-for-5 in a season-opening 5-1 win at Averett. He belted all three homers in doubleheader sweep of Mt. St. Vincent, adding a double and a triple with eight RBI in the series. He went 2-for-4 in a 13-2 win over Juniata, smacking another double and driving in two runs. For the week, Berry hit .588 with a .632 on-base percentage and 1.353 slugging percentage.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK - FIELD ATHLETE
Evan Truman, Lynchburg, Jr., Jumps/Sprints
Truman, a junior from Richmond, Va., re-upped on his previous long jump performances, increasing his grasp on the ODAC's best mark after competing at the Virginia Tech Challenge. His leap of 6.88 meters is 0.11 meters clear of the next closest ODAC competitor. It ranked seventh overall at the VT Challenge and currently sits 23rd in NCAA Division III. Truman also ran in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 0:23.15.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK - TRACK ATHLETE
Sam Gunther, Bridgewater, Sr., Mid-Distance
Gunther, a senior from Chesterfield, Va., put together a strong showing at the UCS Invitational. He placed seventh overall on the way to setting a new school-record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.15. That time is tops in the ODAC by nearly 2.5-seconds and ranks 19th in NCAA Division III. Gunther also helped his teammates to another Bridgewater record in the 4x400-meter relay with a second-place time of 3:25.12. That mark ranks second in the ODAC.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK - FIELD ATHLETE
Kim Alfaro, Lynchburg, Sr., Throws
Alfaro, a senior from Toms River, N.J., continues to throw the weight at a high level. She tossed that apparatus 15.89 meters at the VT Challenge, good enough for a 10th-place finish in the mixed field. That throw is bettered only by her previous ODAC-best toss of 16.16 meters.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK - TRACK ATHLETE
Amber Celen, Bridgewater, So., Sprints
Celen, a sophomore from Townsend, Del., broke a pair of ODAC sprint records that had stood for nearly eight years. At the UCS Invitational, Celen finished eighth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 0:07.75, breaking the record held by Roanoke's Robin Yerkes by 0.01 seconds. She also snapped Yerkes' record of 0:25.31 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 0:25.23. Both of Celen's marks are tops in the ODAC this season. Her 200m time ranks second in NCAA Division III, while her 60m time chimes in 11th.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Austen Arnold, Lynchburg, Sr., Forward
Arnold, a senior from Gate City, Va., helped the Hornets to a pair of ODAC top-three wins last week, which afforded Lynchburg the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Arnold led all players in scoring with 41 points in the Hornets record-setting 160-156 double-overtime win over Roanoke. The 316 combined points set a new NCAA Division III single-game record, while LC's 160 points marks a new ODAC standard. Arnold's 41 points are the most by an ODAC player this season as he went 14-of-21 from the field and 13-of-15 from the foul line. He added six rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot. He had a steal and the clinching free throws in the final seconds of the second extra frame to secure LC's victory. Arnold registered his second double-double of the year in the Hornets 80-75 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan in the regular season finale. He notched 17 points, going 9-of-10 from the line, and added 10 rebounds. He also chipped in an assist and a steal. For the season, Arnold is averaging 13.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game after missing 10 contests due to injury midway thru the schedule. He's shooting 83.3-percent (65-of-78) from the charity stripe.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Duncan Morris, Hampden-Sydney, Jr., Attack
Morris, a junior from Charlottesville, Va., racked up 11 goals to help lead the Tiges to a 2-0 week. Morris opened with three tallies in a 15-8 win at Greensboro, adding four ground balls. He then registered a career-best eight goals in a 19-9 triumph over Methodist. Seven of his tallies came in the first half as H-SC built up a 16-4 advantage following the first two quarters. For the season, Morris leads the ODAC with 17 goals scored accounting for all 17 of his points.

MEN'S TENNIS
Jordan Krasner, Washington and Lee, Sr., #2 Singles/#2 Doubles
Krasner, a junior from Rockville, Md., helped lead the Generals to pair of team wins over Randolph-Macon (5-1) and Christopher Newport (6-3) as they kicked off the spring season. Krasner earned singles wins from the #2 position, defeating his R-MC counterpart 6-0, 6-0. He needed an extra set to defeated CNU's Justin Cerny, ultimately pulling out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 decision. He and partner Will Bannister posted #2 doubles wins over 8-2 and 9-7, respectively.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Mary Shipp, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Pitcher
Shipp, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., opened the season with a complete-game shutout of nationally second-ranked Salisbury, helping the Marlins to a 5-0 victory. Shipp worked all seven innings, giving up just two hits without a walk. She fanned three Sea Gulls.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Sabrina Moreno, Guilford, Fr. Outfielder
Moreno, a freshman from Chula Vista, Calif., accounted for 14 of Guilford's 24 runs in her first three collegiate games, helping the Quakers to a 2-1 week. She went 6-for-10 overall with a walk, smacking a double and two homers while scoring four runs and driving in nine more. She drove in two runs with a double in GC's season-opening 10-5 win over Meredith. Moreno then hit pair of homers as part of a 3-for-4 day in a 9-8 victory at William Peace. One of her round-trippers came with the bases loaded, accounting for four of her seven runs driven in for the game. The seven RBI tie a school-record and are the most registered by a first-year Quaker all-time. She also came around to score three times in that contest.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Emma Redding, Washington and Lee, So., Forward
Redding, a sophomore from Allentown, Pa., proved a strong two-way player last week as she helped the Generals leap-frog Eastern Mennonite to gain the fourth seed and a first round bye in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Redding kicked off her week with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and five blocked shots in a 67-42 triumph at Shenandoah. She was 5-of-6 from the field, a trend that would continue on into her second game. In that contest, Redding was 8-of-9 shooting twoards 18 points with six rebounds, an assist, a steal, and three more blocked shots in a 73-56 victory over EMU. Overally, Redding shot 86.7-percent (13-of-15) from the field for the week. For the season, she's averaging 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She's second in the ODAC with 31 blocked shots, and is fifth in field goal shooting (85-of-161) at 52.8-percent.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Marina Bailey, Guilford, Sr., Midfielder
Bailey, a senior from Rockville, Md., helped lead the Quakers to a come-from-behind 12-10 victory over Methodist in Guilford's season-opener. Bailey scored a career-best five goals, adding in three ground balls and three draw controls. She also caused a turnover.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Brooke Donnelly, Washington and Lee, Sr., #1 Singles/#1 Doubles
Donnelly, a junior from Kennesaw, Ga., kicked off the spring season by winning a pair of top flight singles matches in the Generals team victories over Hollins and Randolph. Donnelly earned a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over her HU counterpart, and did one better with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Randolph. She and doubles partner Tessa Hill posted a pair of 8-0 victories in #1 doubles action. Donnelly is currently the 27th-ranked individual player in the Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Rankings. She and Hill are slotted 22nd in the country.
