ODAC Athletes of the Week | Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis

FOREST, Va. --- Weather did not cooperate in some areas for our spring sports as Week 26 marks the first fully outdoor report of the spring season. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, February 27, include (pictured top-bottom, left-right): Eugenie Rovegno from Washington and Lee women's lacrosse, Jack Smith from Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse, Sarah Watts from Lynchburg softball, Isaiah Hairston from Guilford basketball, Shannon Timoney from W&L women's lacrosse, Andres Mercedes from GC men's tennis, Emma Adams from Virginia Wesleyan softball, Tyler Hadley from LYN men's lacrosse, Gabi Moss from W&L women's tennis, and Hayden Snelsire from R-MC baseball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Hayden Snelsire | Randolph-Macon | Sr. | Starter
Snelsire, a senior from Berlin, Md., improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Alvernia. Snelsire, who has yet to give up a run this year over two starts and 12.0 inning, blanked the Golden Wolves for seven innings in the planned seven-inning contest to account for a complete game shutout. He allowed just two hits and one walk, accounting for the only three runners to reach base. Only one advanced to second base, where he was ultimately stranded. Snelsire fanned nine batters including the first two he faced. He opened the game retiring four in a row including three via punchout. He set down seven straight twice in a dominant effort where 66 of his 88 pitches (75%) went for strikes.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Isaiah Hairston | Guilford | Sr. | 1st Base
Hairston, a senior from High Point, N.C., registered at least two hits and one RBI in all five games played last week, leading Guilford for a 3-2 showing. The Quakers split with Castleton (12-17, 15-3) and Brevard (17-12, 6-8) and took a single game from Northern Vermont-Lyndon, 9-8. Hairston went 11-for-22 overall with two doubles, three homeruns, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, and three walks. He went for extra bases once in each game. He homered and drove in three runs in game one against Castleton and doubled with a RBI and two runs scored in game two. Hairston went 3-for-5 with a home and two RBI against NVL and left the yard again in game one against Brevard, and doubled with two RBI in game two. For the season, Hairston is slashing .533/.615/1.133 with four homers and 13 RBI.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Hadley | Lynchburg | Sr. | Goalkeeper
Hadley, a senior from Summit, N.J., picks up his second straight ODAC weekly honor after standing on his head in the ninth-ranked Hornets 11-7 victory on the road at #11 Cabrini University. Hadley saw 50 shots peppered his direction with 27 on-cage. He registered a career-high 20 saves in a 60-minute shift against the Cavs, posting a 74.1-percent save percentage. Nine of his saves came in the first half when Lynchburg pitched a shutout to carry an 8-0 advantage to the intermission. Hadley added five ground balls and a caused turnover to his stat line. For the season, Hadley leads the ODAC in saves (34), save percentage (73.9%), and goals against average (5.39).

Jack Smith | Randolph-Macon | Jr. | Attackman
Smith, a junior from Stevensville, Md., was a scoring machine in the Yellow Jackets two non-conference victories last week, posting 15 points on nine goals and six assists. Smith opened with six points on five goals and one helper in a 16-10 win over St. Mary's College (Md.). His efforts helped fuel a 7-0 run the completed R-MC's comeback victory. Smith was more scoring playmaker in a 22-13 win over Whittier as he poured in four goals with five assists for nine total points. He chipped in four ground balls and a caused turnover.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andres Mercedes | Guilford | Fy. | #1 Singles | #1 Doubles
Mercedes, a first-year from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, helped the Quakers post a pair of 9-0 wins in ODAC play with a 4-0 showing against top-flight competition. He teamed up with Tye Sasser for #1 doubles action against Ferrum College and Roanoke College. They downed Gabriel Alvarez and Kevin Nester from Ferrum, 8-2, and took care of Federico Maccari and Julio Marques from Roanoke, 8-3. In singles action, Mercedes defeated Alvarez in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and lost just two points in beating Maccari, 6-1, 6-1. Both singles matches were at the #1 ladder position.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emma Adams | Virginia Wesleyan | Fy. | Pitcher
Adams, a first-year from Winterville, N.C., kicked off her collegiate career in almost the best way possible as she registered a no-hitter in a complete game shutout of Meredith in game two of a sweep (8-0, 3-0) of the Avenging Angels. Adams allowed three runners to reach base -- a walk, a hit batter, and an error -- with none advancing beyond second base. Adams struck out the first two collegiate batters she faced and sent the game's last batter packing on a swinging K to finish with eight punchouts. She retired the first four batters she faced and furthered that streak with 10 successive outs to close the contest. Adams also helped her own cause at the dish by walking and doubling in game two following a 1-for-3 effort with a RBI in game one.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Watts | Lynchburg | Fy. | Second Base
Watts, a first-year from South Boston, Va., helped the Hornets improved to 5-1 on the season with a 3-1 week that included a sweep of Mary Baldwin (9-1, 14-6) and a split at Methodist (4-5, 3-0). Watts went 5-for-9 with a pair of walks. She doubled once and homered twice while scoring three runs and driving in seven. She had at least one RBI in each contest and collected one stolen base. She blasted both homers -- solo shots -- in game one against MBU. She drove in three runs in game two and then tallied an RBI each in the contests at Methodist. She doubled in game one.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eugenie Rovegno | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Defense
Rovegno, a junior from Duxbury, Mass., spearheaded a Generals defense that allowed just 13 goals to a pair of top caliber opponents as Washington and Lee moved up four spots in the IWLCA poll to fourth in Division III. Rovegno forced a pair of turnovers and registered a game-high nine draw controls in an 11-8 victory at Christopher Newport University, which is receiving votes towards the IWLCA survey. She added one ground ball and helped W&L shutout the Captains in the fourth quarter. Rovegno then led an even better defensive outing in a 6-5 victory over traditional power and fifth-ranked Salisbury University. Rovegno posted a game-high three caused turnovers to go with seven draws and three ground balls. The Generals defense surrendered four goals in the opening frame, but then only allowed one of the final 45 minutes of action that featured a shutout over the entire second half.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shannon Timoney | Washington and Lee | Jr. | Midfielder
Timoney, a junior from Mendham, N.J. helped Washington and Lee moved up four spots in the IWLCA national rankings to #4 with a pair of victories over top-caliber programs. Timoney opened with a career-high five-point game on four goals and an assist in an 11-8 triumph at Christopher Newport University. She picked up two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers while also corralling one draw. Timoney got the Generals comeback started against traditional power Salisbury University, leading to W&L's 6-5 triumph over the now fifth-ranked Sea Gulls. Trailing 4-2 at one period, Timoney opened second-quarter scoring with a goal to key the Generals turnaround. She added a ground ball and a draw control to her line. Through three games, Timoney has scored seven goals with one assist.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabi Moss | Washington and Lee | Jr. | #2 Singles | #3 Doubles
Moss, a junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., posted a solid 2-1 week to help nationally 21st-ranked Washington and Lee to a 1-1 team showing. Moss and Becket Waters teamed up to face Ainsley Heidbreder and Nina Moravek at #3 doubles in a match against #18 Washington University in St. Louis. W&L's duo dropped that match, 8-3 but Moss recovered for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) triumph over Sophia Huynh in the Bears 6-3 victory over W&L. Moss then helped the Generals rebound with an 8-1 win over DePauw University. She topped Kat Wilder, 6-0, 6-1, at #2 singles.
