Big Week Helps Eagles to Three ODAC Wins
BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Bridgewater College
sophomore Jonathan
Mason (Sterling, Va./Park View) has been selected as the
Division III National Hitter of the Week for the week ending March
20. The weekly award is voted on by a panel of D-III members
of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Mason carried the Eagles to a 3-1 record (their only loss at No. 2
Shenandoah) by batting .647 (11-for-17) with six runs scored, 13
RBI, four home runs and two doubles. He had an on-base percentage
of .700 and a slugging percentage of 1.470. He also was
2-for-2 in stolen base attempts during the week and walked four
times. He started his week with a 3-for-4 effort,
including a pair of homers and five RBIs, in a 10-1 win over
Eastern Mennonite. A day later, he was 2-for-3 with two more homers
and three RBI in the 13-12 loss to Shenandoah. In a
doubleheader sweep over Randolph-Macon, he was 6-for-10 with five
RBI and a pair of doubles. Mason was named the Old Dominion
Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Josh Scott of Baldwin-Wallace College was named the National
Pitcher of the Week in Division III. Scott, a junior from
Strongsville, Ohio, pitched a seven-inning no-hitter as the Yellow
Jackets defeated Ohio Christian University 12-0 in a game
shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run 'mercy' rule. He
struck out six and did not walk a batter. Scott was named the Ohio
Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
