FOREST, Va. --- Reigning ODAC champion Shenandoah University collected a league-high nine all-conference honors to go with one special individual honor to headline the 2023 All-ODAC Baseball Awards.
Shenandoah mentor Kevin Anderson earned ODAC Coach of the Year laurels in a vote of his peers. Randolph-Macon College outfielder Hunter Cole received ODAC Player of the Year recognition, while University of Lynchburg closer Jack Bachmore garnered ODAC Pitcher of the Year distinction. Guilford College third baseman Rylan Smith was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year, and Washington and Lee University outfield Mitchell Salvino earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades from the conference's athletic communications personnel.
For the second time in as many seasons, less than half of the all-conference teams feature repeat honors with just 15 of the 39 All-ODAC stars appearing on the 2022 list. Seven of those 15 appear on the All-ODAC First Team. Shenandoah shortstop Frankie Ritter is now a three-time first team honoree. He along with Cole are the lone repeats from last year's first team.
Bachmore and Roanoke College second baseman Conner Butler moved up to the first team from last season's All-ODAC Second Team. Guilford first baseman Isaiah Hairston made the leap from the 2022 All-ODAC Third Team to the 2023 first team along with Maroons outfielder Jacob Bonzon and Shenandoah outfielder Gavin Horning.

Cole, a senior from Norfolk, Va., lit up ODAC pitching this season, posting the homeruns (9), RBI (27), and total bases (75) in league play. He slashed .400/.495/.833 with his slugging percentage ranking second in the league. He hit safely in 19-of-22 conference games played. He was second in runs (31), third in hits (36), and fourth in walks (18). Overall, Cole is slashing .311/.426/.622 with 11 homers and 40 RBI. He has scored 48 times with 51 hits and 33 walks. His 11 homers are second-most of all ODAC players, while his 33 walks and 102 total bases are third and fifth, respectively.
Bachmore, a senior from Alexandria, Va., was trusted to both win games and close them a the most used pitcher in the ODAC this season. He enters the second weekend of the ODAC Tournament with league-highs of 21 overall and 11 in-conference appearances. He is 6-1 with nine saves overall and 3-0 with six saves against ODAC foes. He has fanned 73 batters in 58.2 innings on the hill with 41 punchouts in 34.0 frames in-conference. He owns a 1.38 overall and 1.59 in-league ERA. Opponents are hitting .186 against him (.190 in conference).
Anderson is in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach and 20th guiding the Shenandoah program. This is his third ODAC top coaching honor, joining the awards her received in 2014 and 2017. Anderson's Hornets have been a top-five ranked team for much of the season. They are currently second in Division III according to the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top-25 poll. Shenandoah is the #2 seed in the ODAC Tournament field and advanced to the final round after topping seventh-seeded Guilford, 2-0, in their best-of-three opening weekend series. The Hornets are 35-6 on the year, bringing Anderson's career records to 757-331-3 (.695) overall and 610-244-2 (.714) at Shenandoah.
Smith, a first-year from Archdale, N.Y., put together a strong first season in Greensboro both in and out of conference play. Smith slashed at .430/.509./.725 overall with .358/.441/.654 numbers in league. His SLG ranks sixth and ninth in the ODAC, respectively. Five of his nine homeruns came in league play, ranking fifth and fourth. He registered 17 doubles overall -- third-best in the league -- with nine coming in conference to rank sixth in the conference. Smith drove in 51 runs overall, third most of all players. He notched 23 RBI in conference games. He hit safely in 33-of-38 games played and enjoyed a 19-game hitting streak early in the season. He posted 16 multi-hit games with three four-hit outings.
Salvino, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., stands out both on and off the field for Washington and Lee. In the classroom, Salvino maintains a 3.939 grade point average as an integrated engineering major with a minor in data science-business analytics. He is a seven-time honoree on W&L's President's List and a seven-time W&L Scholar Athlete. He earned CoSIDA (now College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District First Team honors in 2022.
In the batter's box, Salvino slashed .344/.401/.594 with four homers, 22 RBI, 33 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases. He ranked seventh in the ODAC in triples (3) and eighth in doubles (14). He hit safely in 25-of-31 games played with 14 multi-hit outings. His went a season-best 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored in a 10-4 win over Mary Baldwin University just prior to the ODAC Tournament. Salvino also posted a .988 fielding percentage from the outfield with six outfield assists.
