Feat Comes in NCAA Tune-Up Game Against Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, Va. --- Randolph-Macon
junior Jordan Walton broke the NCAA single season doubles
record against Shenandoah Wednesday with a double in the third
inning to bring his season total to 28. The third ranked Hornets
took the weekday match up 10-4.
Walton added a homerun and an RBI to his record breaking double in
a 2-for-3 effort at the dish. Now with 75 hits this season,
Walton stands just three hits away from setting a new ODAC record
in hits for a season. The current record or 77 hits is held
by Lucas Jones and Ronnie Labrie, both former Lynchburg College
standouts.
James Bierlein finished 2-for-4 at the dish with a three run
homerun. Cory Jackson also chipped in with two hits.
Ryan Wood is stuck with the loss for the Yellow Jackets after
allowing six earned runs and striking out three in three
innings. Carlos Perez tossed three scoreless innings with
two strikeouts in three innings on the bump. Senior Josh
Ellwood gave up just one hit over an inning and a third of
relief.
Kurt Krout led the Hornets at the plate going 3-for-4 with two
doubles and two RBI. Clint DeHaven drove in two runs with a homerun
and was hit by a pitch.
Greg Van Sickler allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out 11
in a five inning start. Four Hornets combined to give up just three
hits and no runs over the final four innings.
Shenandoah scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two coming
from DeHaven's homerun to left center.
Randolph-Macon used a solo homerun from Walton and a three run
blast from Bierlein in the top of the second to take a 4-3
advantage.
The Hornets responded quickly in the bottom half to tie the score
at 4-4 on a Krout RBI single before going ahead 6-4 on a wild pitch
and another RBI single.
Shenandoah added two in the third and two more in the eighth to win
by a 10-4 final.
R-MC Baseball returns to action Saturday, April 30 when they host
York College for a 1:00 doubleheader.
