Bridgewater, Shenandoah Headed to Piedmont for NCAA Baseball Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Bridgewater College was joined by Shenandoah University in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament on Monday afternoon, and the two foes will both play out of the same regional pod.  The Eagles and Hornets will make their way to Piedmont College to compete in a six-team double-elimination grouping.  Action begins on Wednesday, May 14.

The tournament field consists of 56 squads, each of which will compete in one of eight regional pods.  Four of those gatherings will feature six teams, while the remaining four sites welcome eight teams to the diamond.  The eight regional winners will advance to the NCAA Division III Championship Series at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.  Double-elimination format will also be used in Wisconsin.

Bridgewater (33-12) is one of two automatic qualifiers set to play at Piedmont.  The Eagles, winners of the ODAC's bid, are joined by Covenant College (26-13), which earned its place from the USA South.  Emory University (29-10) picked up a Pool B bid as an independent school from the University Athletic Association (UAA).  Shenandoah (31-9) is joined by Birmingham-Southern College (35-10) and Rhodes College (32-15) as at-large selections.

The pod is seeded with the Hornets holding down the No. 1 position.  They open play in the group against sixth-seeded Covenant.  Emory, the second seed, and #5 Rhodes play in game two Wednesday, while third-seeded Birmingham-Southern and #4 Bridgewater cap the first day of competition.
