Heidelberg Shuts Out Shenandoah in Baseball Regional Play

WASHINGTON, Pa. --- Heidelberg pitcher Adam Manner sent Shenandoah University into the elimination bracket of the 2015 NCAA Mideast Regional by throwing a complete game two-hitter in a 5-0 victory over the Hornets Thursday evening.

Manner (8-0) held Shenandoah (28-9-1) without a hit for the initial 7 1/3 innings beforeNolan Overby and Ricky Pardo strung together back-to-back singles to left and right, respectively.

Manner struck out six and did not walk a batter as he faced just two hitters over the minimum through the first seven innings.

The Student Princes (33-12) scored single runs in the first, second and fourth before plating two more in the seventh to give Manner more than enough offense to earn the win.

SU starter Michael Scimanico (6-1) allowed four runs on six hits and seven walks in 6.0 innings of work.

Scimanico, who struck out six, had to leave as he was pitching to the first batter of the seventh. Tyler HottSteven VarnerNolan Potts and Matt Riegler came on in relief of Scimanico.

"I was very proud of the way our guys battled," Hornets skipper Kevin Anderson said.

"Manner threw three pitches for strikes and that was as good a performance as we have seen all season long."

The loss sends Shenandoah into an elimination game against Frostburg on Friday at noon. The winner of that game faces Heidelberg at 6:30 Friday night.
