YORK, Pa. --- The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team survived another day the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional as the squad downed Union College, 10-4, Saturday evening at People's Bank Park. The win puts the Marlins at 30-15 on the year, reaching the 30-win mark for the first time since 2004. The squad will now face off with the top-seeded Rowan at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday in another win-or-go-home match up.
The Dutchmen may have gotten a run in the top of the first, but the Marlins fired back quickly, plating four of their own. Corey King got things moving with a bunt single and was moved to second as Randy Neisz followed up with a single of his own. Jacob Pilarski was able to reach on an error that would move both existing base runners two bags. Tied at 1-1, Zack Clark sent a single up the middle that would knock in two. Brady Fallon would then top the inning off with a sacrifice fly to give VWU the 4-1 lead.
Union would nab another run in the second but a strong third from the Marlins distanced them even farther. With runners on the corners, Jordan Sprouse singled to score Pilarski from third. Deon Hammond then cleared the bags with a triple down the right field line.
Up 7-1, the Marlins used a three-run fifth to really ice the game. With runners on second and third, Sprouse picked up two more RBI as he singled into right field. He would eventually reach home himself on a Hammond single.
Jay Crusemire got the call on the bump for VWU, going 8.0 innings and punching out five. Glen Pizzanello would come in the final frame to put the stamp on the game as he didn't allow a single hit.
