Marion, a senior from Springfield, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season. Marion, VWC’s all-time leader in home runs, topped his own season record for homers set last year by hitting five home runs during a 4-1 week to increase his season total to 13. He set VWC records with three home runs in a single game and RBI in a single game with seven, both set against Roanoke. He hit at a .526 clip for the week and now leads VWC with a .459 batting average. Marion leads VWC with eight doubles, 13 home runs, 42 RBI and 81 total bases.
Baseball Player Honor Roll
Jordan Nelson, Guilford, Junior - Outfield
Nelson hit .400 with a homer, double and two RBI in the
Quakers’ 0-5 week… also scored a team-high six
runs… fielded all six outfield chances cleanly… hit
safely in four of five games, with two multi-hit
performances… went 2-4 with a double and an RBI in a road
loss to Roanoke… had two hits, including his first college
home run, in a loss to Washington and Lee.
Richie Palase, Lynchburg, Sophomore - Shortstop
Palase hit .435 during the Hornets' 5-1 week, going
10-for-23. Five of his 10 hits went for extra bases. Palase
was four-for-five with two doubles against Franklin & Marshall,
following that with a two homerun game against Ferrum College. The
next day against Tufts, Palase was three-for-five finishing a
homerun short of the cycle. On the week, he slugged .913 and was on
base at a 54 percent clip. He also made only one error in 26
chances, and was successful on all four of his stolen base
attempts.
C.J. Thompson, Washington and Lee, Senior - Outfield
Thompson hit .526 (10-19) over six games (six starts),
with five runs scored and three RBI as W&L posted a 3-3 record
last week … was 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in a
two-game sweep of Guilford on Saturday … scored the tying
run in both of the 5-4 come-from-behind wins over the Quakers.
