Brown, a senior from Chester, Va., had a standout week helping the Tigers go 3-1 including a 3-0 ODAC mark. Brown started out the week flawlessly going 5-for-5 from the plate in the Tigers’ 17-4 win over Lynchburg. The senior knocked two out of the park en route to scoring four runs and batting in six more. He continued to crush the ball hitting another home run against North Carolina Wesleyan while also batting 2-for-3. He then hit four more homeruns this weekend in the Tigers’ sweep of Eastern Mennonite, including the go ahead homerun in the top of the ninth of the second game. On the week, Brown hit .800 (12-for-15) with seven homeruns, 13 RBI and nine runs scored while being walked three times.
Baseball Player Honor Roll
Mitchell Edwards, Bridgewater, Senior - Shortstop
Edwards hit .538 in four games this past week to help lead
the Eagles to a 4-0 record. Edwards opened the week with a 2-for-5
effort against CNU. He was 2-for-4 in a 4-3, 10-inning win over
W&L. Edwards was hit by a pitch to lead off the 10th
and scored the game-winning run. In a doubleheader sweep at E&H
Edwards was 3-for-4 in the two games with a double, homer, four
RBIs three runs scored and a pair of walks. Defensively, Edwards
committed just one error at shortstop in the four games.
Chris Baker, Eastern Mennonite, Senior - Outfield
Baker kick-started the Eastern Mennonite offense Thursday
against Catholic when he led off with a double on an 0-2
count. Baker added a triple later that same inning and by the
time the air cleared on a 17-10 win, he had hit for the cycle for
the first time in his career. The senior finished the game
with a 4-4 performance, including a walk, as he scored three times
and had five RBIs. He finished the week batting .400 with
three walks.
Alex Starbuck, Guilford, Senior - Outfield
Starbuck Hit a team-best .385 with a homer and two RBI in
Guilford’s 1-3 week… scored two runs and had five hits
in the four games, both team highs… posted a .846 slugging
percentage for the week… had three hits, including a double
and homer, in Guilford’s 2-0 win over Greensboro
College… doubled twice and scored a run in the opener at
Virginia Wesleyan… handled all six chances in left field
cleanly.
Chris Colquhoun, Lynchburg, Junior - Catcher
Colquhoun reached safely in seven of his 11 at-bats for an
average of .636 this week. Colquhoun had three hits and two RBI
against H-SC Wednesday, while posting two hits in both ends of a
doubleheader at Roanoke on Saturday. He homered once and drove in
five runs this weekend. He slugged 1.091 on the week and got
on-base 69 percent of the time.
Jeb Weymouth, Randolph-Macon, Freshman - Outfield
Weymouth finished 2-for-5 with two homeruns and three RBI
against No.14 Shenandoah earlier this week. Jeb went 2-for-5 with
an RBI in R-MC’s 10-0 win over Washington and Lee
Saturday.
Cameron Travalini, Roanoke, Freshman - Outfield
Travalini went .467 with seven hits, four runs, a double,
a triple, two RBI and three stolen bases. He broke the
school’s single-season stolen bases record (11) in game two
of the Lynchburg contest. Tied the school-record in at bats
against Emory & Henry (7).
Mike Marion, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior - DH/1B
Marion recorded at least one hit in each of four games in
a 3-1 week for Virginia Wesleyan. He belted six hits in 15 at
bats, scored a run, and had one RBI. He has hit safely in 23
of 28 games this season, owns a current .441 batting average, and
is the national home run leader with 13.
